I'm pretty sure all you have to do is take the test to get in. It's just a formality IMO. There were people who scored in the 400's in my MBA class at LSU.
This, IF you have decent professional work experience.

. I remember you were trying to get into the UT program in Houston. Did you go the FT or PT route?
Part time. Half way done. Its been a blast.

It's early high school stuff at best.
The verbal yes.
No way in hell you can go in cold turkey and do well on the math section. Its not calculus or anything but its a hellacious pace and if you have to think about how to do the problem for more than 15 seconds you are fricked.

How's the recruiting from UT's Houston part time program?

We recruit with the full time students on campus, so its pretty good. You still have some people that demand FT only, but you see it less and less. Now its pretty much just IB firms.

If you know are the gpa & gmat requirements at the Dallas campus the same as Houston? I assume they would be.

Did your company pick up the bill? 90k for a 2 year program is steep.

Pretty much. GPA isn't all that important. GMAT and relevant work experience count more.

Nope.
It wouldn't matter because I don't plan on being here when I graduate. I got 10k out of them that I won't have to pay back, its better than nothing.

This is how much I can get out of mine as well. Been looking at the UH, UT, TAMU, and Rice professional MBA programs. Do you see the degree/networking paying off in the short term? I don't see myself staying in technical engineering long term.

Yes, I've made tons of connections. Its like being in a fraternity. It gets you in doors you wouldn't have access too, at least not without a lot of work. I've found alumni that do something I want to do, can email them and have lunch with them to talk about what they do.

I'm only a year out of school and isn't the minimum 2 years out?
eta: thanks though. If I decide to do it once I meet the requirements I'll get some info from you.

If your undergrad is from LSU then I would recommend going to another school for grad school. The LSU alumni network is pretty terrible. I recommend going to a school that gets recruited for top tier consulting or IB positions. Even if you don't do one of those, there will be plenty of rotational programs available. Grad school is all about building a network. Unfortunately, LSU doesn't have many people in top tier positions to help you get interviews.
Definitely appreciate the advice. I am inclined to believe that MS Fin isn't a huge deal for IBD and especially MBB, so I wouldn't bank on that by any means. I'm not 100% on going that route, but I would more or less use the extra year to learn more and get more internship experience. Doing the program at LSU would be extremely cheap. It's a lot harder for me to justify ROI in shelling out $50k for a year at McCombs, Tulane, Duke, Princeton, Villanova, etc., when those types of programs are typically new or are not really that highly regarded. I wouldn't want to make that investment until I start considering going for an MBA, which is obviously a lot more meaningful to employers than a MS Fin for whatever reason.

The LSU MSF is a nice supplement to your existing degree. Since it's cheap at LSU and you want the extra time in no way could it realistically hurt you career objective-wise. The ROI as you mentioned at the MSF programs of more prestigious schools realistically sucks.
It goes without saying that a non-target MBA (particularly at LSU) on the other hand would be a bad call be given your objectives but you're well aware of this.

I've learned so much career stuff perusing here, M&I, and WSO.
If only I didn't clown around the first half of my college career like every other frick. If I just made 4.0s I could sit around and post/fap/etc. instead of working three different jobs. lulz at me.

Just wanted to pop in and give some insight/brag
The best I scored on a practice test was a 720. (Manhattan GMAT)
I scored a 740 on the real thing...
...but the score expires in the summer of 2014 and I haven't applied to any B-schools yet.
I would highly suggest a practice question book, such as Princeton Review. They group the questions by difficulty (400-500, 500-600, 600-700, 700-800). I knew I would be in the 700s on my own, so I didn't waste time studying anything other than 700-800 level questions. I would also advise reading the tips section in most review books. That was probably the most beneficial thing I did. Good luck!

I understand where you are coming from, but just make sure that LSU's MSF has good placement. If LSU doesn't place into good positions it will make your b-school application look weak. To make it into a HWS type b-school, having gone to LSU will be a major knock on your application. Unless you are an engineer, most people from LSU will struggle to get into top b-schools unless they crush the GMAT, which is definitely possible. Don't rule out the fact that most schools do offer scholarships when you start applying for grad school. All of those schools that you mentioned have great networks. I would also consider Vandy and Claremont McKenna.

Thanks again for input. What is your career/background if you don't mind me asking?
