I never heard of these guys. Anyway, they think it's an educated risk to take I guess.

Bass is a fairly big name in Dallas and in the hedge fund world.

I'm still waiting to buy. I didn't think their quick ratio was horrible, but I'm with you, it looks as if everyone knows something except the public.

One of their latest investor presentations refers to plans to delever through selling "non-core" GOM assets and refinancing some 9 1/4 notes. Maybe those plans aren't going so well with crude prices and junk debt doing what they've been doing.

We watched a video on the housing bubble in my finance class at LSU, and it had a small bit in Bass. It talked about how he purchased insurance on mortgage backed securities after he figured out the crash was coming. Forgot exactly how much he made on that, but I remember hearing something like 600% ROI. So what's his play on this now? This stock is nose diving today.

Eta: Here's that video I was talking about. It's a bigger documentary, but here is the section on Bass. LINK

EXXI is trading below its reserve value...the market is punishing small-mid cap exploration companies right now. Probably because of their debt loads coupled with commodity price declines.

On EXXI? I don't think Bass plays the equity markets on a single stock basis.

Golfer and Sneaky were talking about him above. In the link Sneaky provided, it looks like Bass and his management company are making a move on EXXI.

I wish I would have when I posted earlier. I have been watching because of this thread, just scared to pull the trigger.

I'll have a little change Friday. If it's somehow still single digits, I'm gonna try to pick some up.

It seems to be an educated risk to buy. Who knows though?

That original ownership filing you linked above represented that Bass/Hayman acquired some 93,866,877 shares, or in other words, 100% of the outstanding common shares according to EXXI's latest proxy

Probably just a frick up, but maybe a sign of things to come? It was amended yesterday. LINK
