Dang, that's the only card I keep. I literally just got my free night today also.

Ya, usually Chase is good about grandfathering.
I've gotten pretty good value since my wife and I both have one. $98 a year in fees and I've used the two nights at the Indigo in New Orleans and two nights at the Kimpton Nashville next month.

I hope that isn't true bc I keep my IHG card strictly to use the free night every year.

I guess that's really the question. If the free night will go away but you get grandfathered in, then I need to apply ASAP. Otherwise if they're changing regardless then I will wait.

It seems like the feeling is those with this card will be able to keep the exact perks that come with it, for at least the forseeable future. The new IHG cards will be $89 AF instead of $49, and have restrictions on places you can use the annual free night.
I was planning to get this card eventually anyway, but went ahead and got it today before it goes away. If they change the $49 AF or the free night anywhere perks I'll be getting rid of it, but if nothing else you get 66,000 IHG points and a free night anywhere for $49 right now. Hard to pass that up.
Do the free night certificates ever expire or can you rollover/accumulate them over multiple years?

They don't roll over, though I believe some people have had success booking them out past the one year expiration (obviously you book before the exp date but the reservation is after)but I haven't read those experiences enough to determine if it's a rule or not. I believe there is a flyertalk thread on that method though you can read through.

Currently at 5/24, 2 of which will fall off later this year. I was going to use the 2 slots to get SW plus & business to get the companion pass for 2019-20. Will adding the IHG screw up that plan? I see that it gets approved at 5/24, but will it prevent me from adding 2 more cards later this year? I really value the CP pass. I was thinking of adding a business card since my understanding is that they wouldn't prevent me from adding the 2 SW cards. Am I understanding this correctly?

Others can chime in too, but I believe the IHG card would ruin that plan, yes. While you can get it after you've reached 5/24, it does still contribute to your 5/24 count. So you would be at 4/24 even when your cards fall off later this year.
Most business cards do not contribute towards your 5/24 ciung because they don't show up on your personal credit report, so yes a business card would be a good next option for you. There is a good write up on 5/24 here. LINK

Here's the deal. If you are at 5/24 you can apply for IHG and get it.
If you are at 4/24 and apply for IHG, then apply for SW, you will be denied as the IHG will count against your total and put you at 5/24.
Also, Southwest Business does count against your 5/24.
In other news I'm back under 5/24 this weekend. I'm thinking my best bang is 60k Sapphire Preferred. It feels good to be back

Here are the new Chase IHG card details:
Apparently, Chase is discontinuing the current version of the IHG Credit Card with a $49 annual fee and replacing it with two new cards: one with a $29 annual fee and another with an $89 annual fee.
The details of the card with the lower fee include: 60,000 IHG Rewards points for a sign-up bonus
5X points per dollar spent at IHG properties
$29 annual fee
The details of the card with the higher annual fee include:
80,000 IHG Rewards points for a sign-up bonus
10X points per dollar spent at IHG properties
10,000 bonus points after spending $20,000 on the card annually
4th night free on award stays
Anniversary free night at eligible hotels
Platinum Elite status
Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit every four years
20% discount on point purchases
$89 annual fee
I might have to bite the bullet and apply now; I'm at 4/24 but I'm an AU on my wife's SPG card, would that count?

If you stay at IHG properties regularly it's still a pretty good deal with the 4th night free, and depending on how restrictive the free night is. But still not as good as the $49 af with no restrictions.
5/24 doesn't apply to the current IHG card so that won't inhibit you from being approved. Getting the card will definitely put you at 5/24 though.

What he said. I'll add that as an FYI supposedly if an AU is making you at 5/24, they will ignore that one AU account. You have to bring it up though. I had to do this once myself and it should still be true.
They will say you have too many accounts on the phone, and if you respond, but one is an AU, they will say "ohhh blah blah ignore"
Annoying but gets the job done.

Btw those applying for IHG, make sure to ask to be matched to the 80k offer.

Will a product change from CSR to Freedom unlimited affect my 5/24?
Want to get the IHG card then the two SW cards to get companion pass.
Also 5/24 isn’t exclusive to just Chase correct?

About to pull the trigger on the CSR
1- Want a VISA
2- Already have the Barclay Arrival+
3- I get the AF waived
Unless you guys have another recommendation I’m rolling with this one.

If the AF is waived, its a no brainer

Unless there a hotel card I should get.

Might hold out a bit longer for a better sign up bonus.
