Just about to start Day 3 in South Africa. This place is pretty cool so far.

Franschhoek is unreal. Our AirBnB here might be a GOAT AirBnB. I'll be posting pics and stuff on the travel board when I get home.

Damn didn't know you were in SA, sweet

Guess I didn't pay attention to email but my oldest account just closed for no use. It was a Cap One that then converted to Quicksilver. I had it around 13 years. Is that a real dent? My next oldest card is about 11.

I wish I could but already got it.

Reposting since it was on the bottom last page:

My next oldest card is about 11. To add, I have a bunch of cards that are only 1-4 years as well so I'm thinking the more cards older the better but not sure if it's a big deal.

I think you'll probably be ok if you have home mortgage and such, which you do. It didn't help but I don't think you'll be too bad off.

I'm on safari now. First game drive yesterday saw a leopard and was a few feet from two male Lions. Wasn't at the lodge for even 2 hours

Badass.

Today we chased some wild dogs hunting but they failed. Then spotted and for a pretty good look at another leopard.

Bush walk we came across about ten giraffe. One more drive to go on today.

Need to see a rhino

The lion males with females and Cubs went out hunting last night. Cubs are center of shot. They don't spotlight the Cubs.

I think another guest got a better shot of it so I'll share once/if he shares with me. Was awesome.

The two male brothers of the group.

I was able to get a great shot of the female adult but it's on my computer for now.

We actually got that rhino last night. The old dominant male. This morning we got the young current dominant male, female, and a very young rhino child.

Are y'all just driving around and shining lights on the animals at night? Or are you bringing back some mounts?

Looks like an awesome experience.

PSA Office Depot/Max has the VGC deal on now $10 off $300. And who took all the grocery cards from ODs in BR before I could get to them?

Did this very same thing In Zimbabwe... the lions didn't kill that night but it was so amazing.. to sit back and watch lions on the prowl and hunting... it was so intimidiating...

It was worth the extra money to do something like that.

Ya very cool.

We were also lucky enough to come across some wild dogs and follow them to start a chase. They didn't catch any of the Impala but it was cool. I have a decent pic of it.

Guess I'll have to come back and get to witness a kill...or murder as our ranger put it

I've had an Amex card for a number of years and used it regularly. I've sort of gotten away from it, the benefits and customer service are nowhere near what they were a decade or two ago. I'm actually considering closing my account this year.

I need advice on cancelling the Chase Sapphire Reserve. I currently have the Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, Sapphire Reserve, and Ink (not linked to personal account. I have about 140,000 points on the CSR and 80,000 on the Ink. I've already received my $300 travel credit for the CSR, but have not been charged with the fee yet. I was thinking trying to transfer the points to the Ink and cancelling the CSR. Will they still charge me the fee? April should make a year with the card.

I know that the points are worth $550 more on the CSR, which is more than the fee; however, it looks like I will be using the points toward hotel stays and I typically find hotel prices for less than the Chase portal.

You've had the CSR for nearly a year and you have 1,400 points?

Usually you have within 30 days of your annual fee posting to cancel the card and get it refunded. If the fee hasn't posted at all yet you should be fine.

If possible, I would suggest looking into downgrading the card into another freedom card instead of cancelling it. You'll get to keep the account history and credit line to help your credit score, the freedom doesn't have an annual fee, and you can just put the second freedom card in a drawer somewhere and not worry about it if you want. Or you could use it to double up on the bonus categories.
