re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion
I think the Flyertalk thread on that looked pretty bleak on retention offers last time I checked.

In other news, I'm irrationally pissed that it looks like I lost the Ethiopian airplane lotto and that the 787 with their old biz class seats that don't go fully lie flat will be my seats for the 13 hours to Addis. I mean, the angle is generally how I'm laying most of the time anyways to watch TV and stuff but it's the point of the matter.

The 777 is used like 80% of the time on this flight and it has lie flat seats. I can't believe they bought new 787s in 2014/15 and put these seats in.

Thoughts on transferring the points to Freedom, closing the CSR account, then opening CSP to get the bonus? I won't be eligible for the bonus for a product change.

Obviously it would ding my credit a few points, but credit score is plenty high. I would wait a couple months until I'm done with churning the Cap 1 Venture then apply for Freedom unlimited for the free $150 and the CSP for some free bonus points. From there I'd switch my 60k UR from Freedom to CSP.

Assuming you aren't buying a house in a near future, that's what I would do. I have a fairly young credit file and I still don't see much of a ding when I close/open a new card.

I think getting the sign up bonus is easily worth it in your case.

re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion
Ya, I mean, I get 6.5 hours of flat from Addis to Cape Town, then I get two 9 hour segments on the return back in lie flat on Swiss.

But still!

My wife can sleep standing up during takeoff so she isn't bothered in the slightest.

Lucky her. I can't sleep sitting up at all. Barely a wink on any of my trips to Europe, South Africa, Japan...

Yeah I'm 24. 810-815 credit score. No interest in buying a house as I'm looking to get out of LA if I ever get the opportunity.

Plus opening the new account for the CSP will waive the annual fee for first year.

I'd wager you don't have an 810-815 mortgage model score at 24

I say this just so you do some research and aren't shocked when lender scores get pulled.

If you do, that's awesome and congrats, you are in a league of your own at 24

I'm aware the credit score they use for mortgages are typically lower.

I'm just referring to the reports on credit karma, mint, and the free reports you get from credit card services.

I'd just point out they are much much lower for someone only 24

I saw 85 pt drops on mine. I was expecting 20-30

re: Credit Card Rewards and Points Discussion
Authorized user on some accounts almost as old as me helped out a ton...

So I think the play is going to be moving the the UR points to the Freedom to hold...then open the CSP (and Freedom Unlimited for the free $150) in 3 months and transferring the points from the Freedom to the CSP once I am done hitting the 3 month spending requirement for my Capital One Venture card.

Thoughts?

ETA: Assuming I'll get a 5-10 point ding once this whole process is complete. Just checked and have $9 left for the $300 annual credit. Hmmmm what to do with the $9

ETA2: I'm also considering just taking the $600 check. Is that so terrible of an idea? I still have 2 trips left for later this year not booked.

Just signed up for the sapphire reserve, my first sapphire card.

I tried to talk the bank guy into giving me some more sign up points but he wouldn’t budge

Go grab lunch at a hotel restaurant. They will usual code as the hotel, and therefore travel.

And I assume everyone on here is itching to send out some Reserve invites?

I know it's coming some day, but I'm going to be pissed when they convert by old Bold and Cash to Preferred and I lose my 5x office, cable, etc

Just about to start Day 3 in South Africa. This place is pretty cool so far.

Franschhoek is unreal. Our AirBnB here might be a GOAT AirBnB. I'll be posting pics and stuff on the travel board when I get home.

Damn didn't know you were in SA, sweet

Guess I didn't pay attention to email but my oldest account just closed for no use. It was a Cap One that then converted to Quicksilver. I had it around 13 years. Is that a real dent? My next oldest card is about 11.
