Use Avios to fly on Iberia to Europe. Fly through Madrid and you avoid fuel surcharges AND they have a lower redemption in miles than other airlines.

I've been putting Europe on the backburner due to its proximity.

Since I don't have kids yet, it behooves me to go further now and do Europe more extensively in the future.

But ya, hopefully the Iberia option or similar is still there sometime in the soupy future.

We're flying Iberia next year. JFK to Madrid. 3-5 days in Madrid and then on to Italy for 2-3 weeks.

I kept reading about this but couldn't figure out how to do it on their websites. Didn't realize you had to call.

That'll be a nice one.

I have a feeling Europe will be on the table come 2019/2020.

I'm squeezing in a twofer for 2018

Just a heads up Barclays Cashforward card has a $200 cash bonus after 1k in spend, usually its $100 bucks. No annual fee, 15 months no interest.

I flew their "new" business class product from MIA-MAD last summer on Avios. It was a nice seat, mediocre soft product, but for the value it was a great deal. They pretty much routinely opened up 2 biz class awards on most flights, so it wasn't hard to find availability either. I feel like it's an under appreciated redemption on the travel blogs getting to Europe. Taking advantage of the transfer bonuses by AMEX it usually represents a pretty damn good value.

It left MIA at like 8 PM or something, so you have dinner and can get 6 hours or so of sleep in a lie flat.

Any wine drinkers have an Amex, they have a pretty good deal right now, spend $50 online at Martha Stewart Wine and get $40 back.

Just bought 3 decent bottles of wine for $10.

Probably never go to that site again, but can't pass up cheap wine.

I hopped on this thanks to you. Just got the email that my order is delayed due to increased demand . Guessing a lot of people did the same.

Here's an interesting thought for those with the BA companion pass.

Fly from New York to London to Singapore to Sydney for 210k Avios and $1700 in business class for 2 seats.

For those with the time, like to fly and make some fun stop overs, it's a pretty good deal for the amount of miles flown.

If the companion pass allowed you to fly non BA metal, that would be one of the best CC bonuses out there even at $30k spend.

An easy one is Uber. You can use your Chase Reserve and earn 3x points for travel since Uber codes as travel.

Hadn't heard of this app. Just downloaded it. So it's a egift card? You buy whatever the ride costs and then pay with the cert or you just buy some beforehand and use the certs to pay for the rides you're taking? Seems like a good way to earn 4x though. Although I do have my SPG linked and I get extra SPG points using my SPG Amex.

This one. Works with Uber Eats too from what I'm told. Will be doing that soon enough.

It's just a little something extra here and there. My buddy cleans up at Petco for his dog. PSVue used to be on there too, so just keep an eye on the merchants.

I just downgraded my old sapphire to a freedom in the last 2 weeks. Do y'all think I need to wait to apply for a new sapphire for a bit? Also I'm an authorized user on my wifes sapphire preferred, will that affect me applying for a new one because of chases new rules on the sapphire?

The AU will count towards your 5/24 if that is an issue for you.

Unless you're in a hurry to get points for a redemption I see no reason not to wait a little longer to make sure it clears the system.

The new rules related to approvals for Sapphire is that a cardholder can only have one Sapphire (Reserve or Preferred). So if you are a current cardholder for the Preferred or the Reserve, you are not eligible for approval. Fortunately, being an AU on your wife's Preferred is not an issue here. This new rule only counts toward the primary cardholder. But as Teddy Ruxpin mentioned, the 5/24 rule includes cards for which you're an AU.

I'm still wondering when/if they'll raise Reserve signup bonus again. I'm sure we won't see 100k but having it the same as Preferred seems weird. Probably trying to recover all those acquisition costs.

You'd think 75k wouldn't be outrageous.

It might be a while. I've read a lot about Chase losing quite a bit on the Reserve so far, so I wouldn't expect an increase in that bonus any time soon. I think they'll make money on it eventually, but they've taken a hit this year.

In addition, you can see all the points/miles bloggers have stopped pushing the Reserve all of a sudden (TPG, One Mile At A Time, etc). Most likely because Chase has stopped giving them that nice referral bonus for the Reserve. They're still pushing the Preferred pretty hard.

I signed up for Rapid Rewards Plus and Premier today

4K spend in late December/ early January should net me 23 months of Southwest companion pass and 120,000 RR points.

That's a lot of flights. Time to plan some vacations.

Companion pass is a game-changer. Between the points, the flexibility of SW, and the companion the value is unreal. Mine expires on new years, making the wife get it starting next year.

after that, it may go down to 40K

if you get them now, you should be able to have the bonuses post in January
