I got the personal SW Premiere back in January. I guess I need to go get the business or either the personal one that is not "Premiere".

Teddy, I've got a credit card question. Less than a month ago I applied and got the Chase Freedom Visa card with the terms that if I spend $500 in the first 3 months, I'll get $100 back. This is the 3rd week I have had the card and I noticed that they are now offering $200 cash back for $500 spent in the first 3 months. Is there anyway I can negotiate the $200 cash back deal although I signed up when they were offering $100?

I was pretty excited to know I would get $100 back, but since I noticed they are offering $200 I've been fairly grumpy

Absolutely. Send Chase a Secure Message from your account. You usually have a 90 day window to request that you get the better offer. I did this with my fiancee when the same thing happened with us. They will deposit the difference into your account no problem.

Just a heads up, AMEX SPG is doing what seems to be their biannual 30k signup bonus.

Don't forget if you are getting one for your SO, you can get a 5k referral bonus through your CC homepage.

I get really good value out of these points. I've converted them to airlines and got the bonus as well as used at several SPG properties. Some real values in the SPG hotels IMO. Perfect card for Amazon payments easy 12k points/year. $65 AF waived first year.
LINK

From a blog, but my thoughts exactly and has helped me get out of point jams a couple of times.
quote:

I have always thought this card was one of the best, long before this offer came around, Yes, its value is in the number of transfer partners, especially the unique ones not available to other point transfer programs (UR and MR). I can't tell you how many times I used Starpoints to top off an existing balance and book an award so I think of this card as a kind of Swiss Army knife to get me out of my award planning jams. The 5k bonus for 20k redemptions also makes this card earn an effective 1.25 miles per dollar, better than the airline cards themselves.

Beyond that, I frequently receive well over two cents in value per point redeemed at their hotels, especially with the fifth night free. For example, my next stay at an airport Sheraton in Europe is returning 2.47 cents per point. Remember to add in the price room taxes, which you usually don't pay on awards.

FINALLY!

After a very long call with Chase, I was able to get my Ink Bold app approved.

I was sweating it there for a little while, but my silver tongue was able to push through. I already have an Ink Plus, so that was the obvious hold up, but I had a plan going into the call.

Oh, and listen to Afro above, good time to get on that card.

Nice. I think I'm going to get the ink bold too for my wife while it's at 60k. That there is a lot of points.

So what was your spiel? I might have to hold off till I can get the card myself.

Ah. Well that's good news. Didn't really need it. I just got my wife the 40k arrival card this morning.

As much as I want to like the idea of the arrival, i still don't see myself putting any spend on it. If it doesn't hit a chase card bonus, I can still get more value out of 1 spg point or ur point.

Next round I'm looking at another Citi Executive card or two if the current bonus is still available and the Chase British Airways card is the Avios bonus is at least 50000.

I said that the card would be for charging things that are "client costs" and would eat up a limit quickly but paid off each month, while my current ink plus would be for overhead and equipment etc. Trying to keep these two different expenses separate.

It helps that I have a general idea how I'd run this business. After that long phone call I just might start one

As for the arrival, I'm using it a lot. It's almost too easy to use and redeem so it sucks you in. Plus I added a trip to Cedar Point(VA Buckeye this place better be awesome) and flight to San Francisco that only Arrival would be useful to help me out with.

I've been watching this thread for a while, and recently just received my first rewards card. I went with the Capitol One Quicksilver card and chose this one over AMEX Blue Cash Preferrd because of the caps but am now currently rethinking this. I have a 750's credit rating, and currently spend about 3500-4000$/ mo on goods and services with about 1500/mo in gas and groceries. I'm thinking about adding the Blue to use for gas and grocery purchases, and Quicksilver on everything else, as my wife does a lot of shopping at Target/Walmart. I also want another rewards card, and am considering the Barclay Arrival Plus after much praise on this board. Do you agree with this strategy or any other ideas?

In other news

SANDUSKY, Ohio (AP) — Cedar Point was forced to shut down its amusement park and most of its resorts on a pitch-perfect summer day Saturday, as a water main break in the city of Sandusky disrupted the primary water supply.

I'm a huge enthusiast and really a 29 year old child so I went out of my way to do this. I count down the days like it's Christmas. I will fix that water main myself if it comes between me and Millennium Force, Dragsters, or whatever death trap I attach my flesh rag doll to. Too excited.

Just me and my best man. Probably get loaded and ride rides for two days. Sounds great to me.

I'm taking the family to Disney and Universal for a week in November. I would like to get the most points out of this trip. All I have now is a Citi thank you preferred and diamond. What card would be the best way to accumulate points for this trip. Also should I buy gift cards online and pay using those? I am fine with getting another card since these are paid off monthly anyway.

I've read the entire thread but still can't quite wrap my head around it. I would really like points to just help cover the cost of a family trip each year.

That's a fairly short time table. In my opinion, you'll want to start off with a card with a large sign up bonus. Barclay Arrival Plus, Chase Ink Bold, and Chase Sapphire Preferred all come to mind.

As far as accumulating points, we would need more information concerning what you spend money on, and how willing you are to play the point game.

Not trying to pay for this trip with points. Just want to get started earning them correctly. I know I have to spend certain amounts on cards to qualify. This trip will be about 6k. Flights have already been paid for. So just looking for the best card to start with.

I have a fair amount of free time, so I can play the game.

You'll find that Chase gets a lot of love due to generous reward accrual and extremely generous award redemption possibility, particularly through travel partners. I have a Freedom, Sapphire Preferred, and Ink Bold which I basically treat as one big card as the points can be combined. Even though I plan on getting more cards as time goes on, first and foremost, the Barclaycard World Arrival, I can't see any card ecosystem unseating Chase for me for the foreseeable future. But, the card that is right for you will be based on what you spend money on and what you'd like to use your points for. We need more information if you want specifics.
