Are you thinking award travel or just travel in general?
Honestly it would be a combination of both, but I'd think it should be geared towards travel in relation to points just to keep the likeminded money board readers as primaries for input and audience. I hate to sound like an elitist, but there aren't too many places on tigerdroppings that don't look at trips besides vacations to 30A or the Florabama as being worthwhile. I see trip suggestions all the time on the OT, but some of the advice could be boiled down into, "Eat at Fudpuckers Pussy!!!".

That is precisely why I didn't think a travel thread on OT would be beneficial to anyone. Lets start one here!

Also, if we don't do a tour group, wouldn't it be too much to take by ourselves? Like the stories/other info about the places we see/visit?
I may differ from others, but I like the freedom of doing my own thing. One day, when money isn't an issue I'd love to do the personal tour guide thing, but for now I prefer downloading audio walking tours in my iphone podcast app and following them. Rick Steves and a few others have them available for free, and I'd recommend checking them out. They have corresponding .pdf maps which can be used in conjunction with the podcast (make sure you download so you can listen offline, 30 megabytes getting sucked up on international data would suck). I find the podcasts work out well because I can pause whenever I'd like.
Also, I tend to watch/listen (there are some great travel podcasts with loads of tips) to documentaries before I go about must see locations so that I can take notes and appreciate it when I am there. The same goes for guidebooks. Read about something ahead of time, so that you can fully appreciate it in the moment (particularly for something as well documented as the Colosseum, Forum, or Vatican).

I do that every time I go somewhere. Watching documentaries is a great idea. Going to do that. Any specific recs on that?

My companions will be my parents. If anyone would be holding us up in the morning, it would be me since they are used to waking up at 5 am anyway. So thats a good thing. We have no problem going as early as possible. Keeping that in mind, how early is too early? If we do get there early, how good/bad are the lines? As in, how long would we be waiting in line still, if at all?
Ehhh. If it is your parents skipping the lines via tour may be the way to go. There is too much else to do in Rome with them (going to Rome with my dad would be a great memory) that is better than standing in line. Particularly eating. Lots of eating.

Even though I was a history major the colosseum and forum doesn't really get me to jazzed up. It is more fascinating then interesting to me. The Vatican is another story, I did like looking stuff up on it, and there are no shortage of doc's on it. Natgeo: Youtube link; "Inside the Vatican" Narrarated by Martin Sheen also, amazon prime has a bunch that can be found in instant video (I'm sure the same can be said for Netflix). I forgot to mention that this is a jubilee year, so if you are Catholic there is some other stuff that may make you and your parents trip to Rome more memorable.

For those (like me) that didn't know until now:
Buying AirBnB gcs (or any other) from ebay sold by PayPal digital gifts codes as utilities and gives 5x on Ink. Click through other cb portals for ebay plus earn ebay bucks to stack.

Can you break that down so I can understand?
Also, Marriott sweetened the deal and they are buying Starwood again

PayPal is the only vendor that can sell digital gift card codes for vendors on ebay. So if you buy gift cards sold by them - some of which include AirBnB and Staples, they code as utilities and result in 5X points on Ink. I need to book some AirBnB stays in Italy in June. So instead of getting the 2X through Sapphire booking directly with AirBnB, I bought AirBnB GCs on eBay. I clicked through iConsumer portal to get me an extra 1.5% cash back and on top of that earned 2% in eBay bucks.

Don't worry. Angbang will counter. Thats what we want. Rando Chinese company to buy the portfolio so they don't mess with my program

PayPal digital gifts is a good way to get the 5X. Pretty quick delivery too

Does anyone know if American allows a less than 24-hour stopover on a one-way award ticket? i.e., if I book a ticket that gets in at 3pm into New York, with an onward international departure before 3pm the next day, will they allow that?
Posted on 3/21/16 at 4:39 pm to txtiger79
I think so. Less than 24h counts as a layover. Stopover is 24h+. Although, you may not be able to book it online and may have to call it in.

Dulles to Buenos Aires. Best way to use AA, or Avios or United or whatever a bunch of Amex points gets me? Also have 130k Chase points.

Grown to really like the 20K one ways to Brazil/Argentina and rest of South America 2. 18K with 10% rebate. Can't beat that. But this will go away tomorrow. Book or hold today
Best availability will be with SkyTeam. I think ANA is 55K RT to South America. So thats where your MR would go. Could also use Chase points on United but I'd spend MR first.
Or you could do Business class. One way with MR, other way with Chase

Unfortunately probably IAH-clt-Jfk-auh-bom. That's why I'm hoping to do the IAH to jfk part the day before so I can hang out with friends in nyc for a night.
I'm probably going to have a hard time ticketing this tonight due to the issues with getting EY availability so I'm not celebrating anything yet. I've also read that you have to ticket not just hold to get the pre-deval rates.

Try looking with your outbound as the return on an itinerary with a dummy outbound. I.e. Originate the trip in India and have what you want as the us-India portion be the return. Then look for your desired India-us return leg as a one way. The etihad site hates trips originating in the us for whatever reason when it comes to award seats. They release 2 award seats on almost every single flight in business and first. Coach often has a ton of availability.
Booking is another story. Just got off with AA and they couldn't see the availability that etihad' site shows. Off to flyertalk to look for tips.
