Houston customs and immigration has been horrific recently.
The first time I used global entry in Houston, I bypassed a huge line of people after getting my luggage. The officer even commented I got my money's worth that day.
If you don't have checked luggage, it is significantly faster. If you check luggage, you will be waiting for it, but it's still faster.

Today was a good day.
Found an atm that didn't charge the $1 fee near a place I do work stuff at all the time.
There really is no way to tell before you do it. This machine was the same brand of Allpoint as the first I tried that did charge the fee.

Can you explain what you are doing for manufactured spending? I always see your posts but still can't figure out what in the hell you are talking about. Tia.

Basically, you are buying things with a CC that are "cash equivalents" and converting them into cash. Usually there is a small fee attached to do so, but they are outweighed by the points gained.
I suggest just Googling around because the sites out there can explain it way better than I ever could and be prepared to read a lot.

I just got back from rural France.
My Amex was useless outside the few days I spent in Paris but even there coverage was spotty. And for the record, it's almost never advertised on the door. My Visa chip and signature card worked fine though, even if it did confuse people. It also worked in unmanned kiosks like motor garages which was a life saver.
I don't think GE saved me massive amounts of time on my return. We must have been the only international arrival, and everyone was moving quickly. Still, I was on the curb in 15 minutes and that was with two checked bags.

We are flying into JFK on Sunday afternoon with a fairly tight connection to Dulles. I expect GE to save the day.

Favorite part so far?
JFK. I came back from Greece through there. I was a tad worried when they asked everyone who was checking their bags through to further destinations to put their bags "against that wall." It was a zoo.
I was almost positive I was never going to see it again, but somehow it all worked out.

Favorite part was I Sodi vineyard in Tuscany. The co owner (80 years old). Came in from working his vineyard shirtless and gave us a personal 2 hour tour of the production facilities and wine tasting. We purchased three cases that day.
The next day we were denied a tour at a more commercial vineyard and went back to I Sodi where the family gave us another tasting. Our group ended up purchasing 5% of their 2010 production run of the super Tuscan wine.
I Sodi Vineyard
It was inspiring to see the pride that they take in their work and how well they treat people that walk up to their vineyard. The owner took himself away from working the fields to make sure we could see his vineyard.

Just read the webpage. Pretty cool.

Nice buckeye.
I was thinking about those OT threads "do you regret anything" and I think if I had to name one thing, it would be that I didn't get in to this hobby earlier
.
I still travelled pretty good, but it required much more financial sacrifice to do so and ALWAYS in coach. Those guys that got in on some of those early MS games and taking full advantage of the loose award routing rules, would've been pretty sweet. I didn't have the financial stability either so I might have got myself in trouble having to float money at certain points. Oh well. Making up for lost time now.

Global Entry in Atlanta is pointless. I get though customs really fast without it.
You must be lucky with your time of arrival. I've stood in some long lines there. I now have GE and it is great.

I went ahead and just did the TSA Pre, so I can go ahead and start using. Prior to taking an international trip, I may look getting the GE. Platinum card pays for one every five years, but I've heard they often misidentify credits, so hoping when that point comes, they just pay the fee.
Have my TSA Pre interview on Friday, what should I expect? How soon after will I get my traveler number?

Should have done Global Entry. It includes precheck...

I don't currently have a passport... You need a passport to get GE, so that would have taken me weeks to get a passport, then weeks to get cleared for global entry.
I have 5 business trips within the next 6-8 weeks. Cost/benefit wasn't worth waiting in my mind for a potential international trip within the next two years.

For GE I got an ID # immediately which didn't do anything but I could populate my FF accounts with it.
Everything was activated during the interview. I assume that part is the same.

I read this blog post a couple weeks ago and decided to try it out (AA miles are my favorite). Long story short it worked.
Finally time for me to figure out how MS works. I got a Serve card and will be doing some homework.

So if my interview is on Friday and my flight is on Sunday, in theory, I should be able to add my ID# to my account prior to printing my boarding pass and it have the TSA Pre on it?

Ehhhh, I believe the airline is really the ones who process it through their system so that might not be enough time. Not positive but everything I read about this stuff made it sound like you needed some lead time between adding the ID # and it working.
But you'll probably be good for your ones after it.
Maybe it work though, I just wouldn't count on it.
