Anyone have a sizeable amount of their investments in CEFs? I haven't purchased any, but I have a friend who thinks they should have a place in every portfolio.

Any PIMCO investors out there?
I like 8-12% monthly payouts.
Is there a catch? Are these essentially a bunch of different bonds grouped into a fund?

I own a good amount of DHF, CHW, PHK, and PHT......They have all paid like clockwork for me for quite a while (years and years)

I own PEO,EMF,BGT,MXF,IRL, LDF, and PPR. I have owned and traded CEF's for years. Buy when the discount is near it's historic lows and sell when the discount closes. I've had several that bought their shares back at NAV or openended at NAV which allows you to capture the discount as well. I pick a sector I like as a contrarian and then look for CEF's in that sector selling at historically attractive discounts. Good trading.
