Car Insurance - Direct Online Quote vs Agent

Looking to switch from StateFarm over to Progressive. Did an online quote to match exactly what we have currently. 6mo premium went from $2,178 to $826. (2 vehicles, 2 adults, no children on policy)
Reached out to a local progressive agent and they quoted me $2322 which is pretty close to what I am paying with StateFarm currently.
Is there that much of a markup by going through an agent? Or is it possible I put my shite in wrong? Seems pretty straight forward. StateFarm was previously with an agent as well.

some of these online raters don't run clue and mvr reports until after issuance so you're quoting info better hold up.
No agents aren't marking up online rating systems and the commissions are not nearly that gap difference.

One thing I noticed was that on progressive's site, it did a single Premium for Labiality (BI/PD) and Uninsured Motorist that covered both vehicles (2nd vehicle not on screenshot). Whereas on the agent quote, it had a premium for that under each vehicle.

I also switched from State Farm to Progressive. Went from $1,320 (with agent) to $840 (without agent), identical coverage of course.
Mostly wanted to share that when my Progressive renewal came up it was set to jump to $936. Instead of renewing I ran a whole new quote and got the same coverage for $660. I guess they bank on people not wanting to take the time to get a new quote.
I’ve lost interest in building “loyalty points” and intend to shop Progressive, State Farm, and Geico before each renewal. My previous State Farm agent soberly warned me not to do this, but premiums paid are more real to me than whatever behind the scenes algorithm/magic she was warning about.
Hoping your rate improves with Progressive as well!

just shown different. you can't change the policy level coverages on a vehicle to vehicle basis on same policy. If you're saving so much money, go to 100/300/100, add med pay of 1k or 5k.

Progressive direct vs progressive through agent are two different companies.
As different as GEICO and State Farm.

I don't think this is true.

It is.
Different underwriting systems. They file rates separately with the department of insurance.
Edit to add: it wouldn't shock me if State Farm has multiple underwriting systems active in LA. It is common for a system to "retire" where they keep all of the active old policies but only issue new business into a separate one.
The difference for Progressive is that they run the separate system in their Direct platform where state farm is just overlaying new ones on top of new ones.

Thanks for the info everyone. Any risk going with the direct/cheaper option assuming my info is all accurate?

An agent helps you setup and use the insurance (claim).
If you have proper coverages, I can't imagine any downside to the direct policy.
You could call an auto body repair shop and ask them if they see different claims processes between various progressive policies (i.e. OEM parts, speed of approval and speed of payment).
If there are any differences, then you can weigh out pros and cons on premium.
