Looking to get some information on building. House plans are in the final stages. Building in Prairieville...3000 sq, ft. on nice lot. I'm looking to go the builder route just not going to have the time to sub it out myself. Need good information on builders in the area or information on new constuction. Thanks for the help!

I'm interested in this as well. We'll be building on some acreage off of Bluff sometime in late 2012 and am looking for a builder myself.

Ron Babb, Jim Fussel, Philip Haddad. Can't go wrong with any of these guys and there exclusive subcontractors on a house this size. Lots of jacklegs in town do your homework.

I have heard nothing but bad things about Haddad. We also heard Babb is very proud of his work.

You usually always get what you pay for. Those three guys built 20% of CCL . If you want the finer details addressed you need a guy who knows and a group of subs who take pride in their work. Like I said they're are plenty cheaper...good luck.

I've actually talked and went through 2 peoples' homes that Haddad did and neither of them were too impressive as far as craftsmanship was concerned. Babb was another story. He does build a fine house. Just not convinced that I can't get the same thing for less. I'm sure every builder has had some bad experiences. I must have just seen and heard 2 of the bad peoples' experiences with Haddad.

I used one who used solid subs, but being there to communicate with them fell in my lap... which was okay, but would've been nice to know that up front. Price was pretty fair though. Let me know if this interests you... He (and I) live off of Bluff Road.

You might also want to look up a guy named Tom Guerin. Tom has some kind of project going on in EBR, but is a most helpful gentlemen... and if he can't help you, I bet he can point you in the right direction. If I were building today, I'd look him up.

Good luck.

In 1994, we were the second house built in Manchac Crossing. Jerry Passman built our home and we were very pleased with not only the house but the relationship that we had with Jerry. We have since relocated to Dallas and don't know if he is still around, but it may be worth your while to talk with him if he is.

Call Mike at Tramonte Home Builders. 225-413-4680. Quality work at a reasonable price. He built his current home, the craftsmanship is amazing. His home is modest for being a builder, he doesn't make mega money like some of the other builders mentioned earlier.

Not to turn this into a religious argument, but please don't trust someone based on this.

I used to work for a deacon who violently screwed people out of money, by putting in inferior products instead of what he sold them, making us install broken products, or products with missing pieces, and intentionally ignoring product protection measures because "they are going to come back when it breaks".

I quit working for him as soon as I could find another job, but I saw 9 months of it.

The best thing you can do is to find 3-4 builders and try to talk to some of their clients and see which one you feel most comfortable with.

Good costs money. If you want cheap, you'll get cheap construction.

Not going to pay 10-12% builders' fee when I can pay 8% and most of the same subs are used.

Good post.

Usually those who use their "faith" to benefit their business are not to be trusted.

You sound like an honorable man.

So you're saying it's not worth 2-4% to have a professional manage the project and subs and make sure the construction is up to par, deal with inspections, etc?

Uh...ok.
