No, two different couples. It's funny, both of the husbands are CRNAs and both wife's are RNs. The wives have both quit working and said they have no desire to go back to school.

Anesthesia assistants will be less qualified than Physican Assistants, they will have no hands on experience in codes, no in depth knowdledge of hemodynamics or advanced pharmacology and lastly no ICU experience.

Sure some may hire CRNAs, but the market is not currently flooded whatsoever and if those anesthesiologist think their malpractice is high now; wait till they hire those chumps.

CRNAs have gone to school for 4 years worked at least 1 but usually 2 or greater in an ICU or ER setting, then go back to school for another 28-32 months.

Doctors are beefing because they are getting paid well but these nurses have done more in 8 years than any MD coming out of school. FACT

LSU is even talking about making their program a Docturine program so as to eliminate that label problem.

Yeah, but that's not really a head to head comparison is it?. While a med student becomes a "doctor" the day that they graduate from med school, their training is far from complete. They then are looking at another 3-8 years depending upon speciality. (4 more years for Anesthesiology and even more is an anesthesia subspeciality).

Thanks Captain Obvious, and once they are a certified anesthesilogist, CRNAs will take orders from them.

I'm talking about comparing years of schooling for MDs and 8 years for CRNAs......

Sure an MD who specializes is more skilled, he is also paid for his skill.

CRNAs shouldn't even have to deal with this "anesthesia assistant" crap. Its doctors trying to get labor on the cheap from unqualified individuals!

Actually, try again. Most actually oppose this. My wife is an Anesthesiologist and I am Pulmonary-Critical Care. It isn't doctors who initiate this. However, you are correct in the fact that some do try to take advantage of the situation once it exists.

From what I've read the AMA is the ones who are pushing hard for this.......and their lobby is one of the most powerful around.

Anybody with hiring and recruiting experience got some answers?

I'm still in school but my dad has been in medical and pharm sales his whole career. His background was purely business marketing and now he's doing well in management at McKesson so he knows a lot about this subject. I'll try to find some answers for you and hopefully post another reply tomorrow.

The AMA is all for anesthesia assistants. They will do anything in their power to cheapen another profession. If an anesthesiologist can hire 4 anesthes. asst to do the job of one CRNA, they will do it in a heartbeat if it will put more money in their pocket. The AMA is currently trying to get legislation passed so nurse practitioners can't practice in a pharmacy setting b/c they know once these little clinics get set up, that means less $$ for the GP. They are trying to make it illegal for a NP to work in a place that sells tobacco products, therefore pharmacies would lose the ability to sell tobacco if they have NPs working in their store. It all comes down to $$ and that is it.

Your preaching to the choir..........sad thing is the ANA is a bunch of women who let the AMA push them around. Nurses don't use the power of numbers when trying to getting shite accomplished.
