That was our second thought. You been there?
Going in March.
Did research for months and months and determined that was probably the closest thing to Bora Bora at about half the cost.
7 days in Fiji including round trip airfare from Los Angeles for right at 5k

I honeymooned in Bora Bora in 1986.
It is the most beautiful island I have ever visited. Back then there was:
No TV
No Internet (obviously)
No air conditioning (not needed the weather is perfect)
Our hotel provided bicycles to get around the island. We could put on our fins and masks and be snorkeling as soon as we entered the water.
It is #1 on my list of places to visit again.

I have not been to sandals myself. why is everyone anti-sandals?
Basically what the previous poster said. Some like it, some hate it. We went to Sandals and loved it because we didn't want to do anything for a week and have no worries. My friend on the other hand went to a place in Belize with hardly any amenities where they had to ride their bike into the city to eat dinner every night. Its just what you want.

Go to Fiji instead
Been there too. Flights are going to be very expensive. We did a cruise in the Yasawa Islands which is where the movie "The Blue Lagoon" was filmed. It was a great trip and the people were as friendly as any i've met.

That's about right at what we are looking at. 7 days and 5K. I'll start looking in to it. Appreciate the help.

Thanks for the insight. I'm sure what you paid in '86 will be about triple now, at least. We are open to doing a cruise, but if we did we want to do something other than the typical Mexico cruise. I'd like to do that eventually, but I want something out of the box for our honeymoon.

The last thing I wanted to do after my wedding was get on an all day flight. (we waited until Monday to leave) But honestly you have a plethora of great options in the Caribbean.

If you are looking to the Caribbean, you need to decide if you want luxury or nice and do you want to lounge all day or explore. Narrow that down and then you can look at locations...

Just went for the honeymoon, my csb was that we kept running into Patrick Peterson and his wife on their honeymoon, both having used the same travel agent. He was decked out in LSU gear in LAX, both nice and very polite. Look up Malcolm Travel in BR.
price estimates on here are pretty correct, as with most things you can spend as much as you want, but also make it on somewhat of a budget. i can see both sides, i was looking to the Caribbean for a more budget friendly trip, but have absolutely zero regrets for the experience. stayed 2 nights at hotel intercontinental moorea, and 5 nights at intercontinental thalaso in bora bora. both were awesome: the most beautiful places we will probably ever visit. i would encourage you to eat at the local places and not the resorts for better and cheaper food. the intercontinental thalaso is one of the newest resorts and one of the surrounding islets, but there is another hotel intercontinental on the main island, so there are free shuttles every half our or so by boat. most of the other resorts on the surrounding islands charge a fair for their shuttles and they are not as frequent.
weird grocery store experience there: the two top shelf wines were barefoot and yellowtail @ 40$ per bottle, and all the good french stuff was 11$ per bottle.
email @ man.in.the.stadium@ gmail if you need info or tips. congrats.

Wow I appreciate that post. I'll sit down with my fiance when I get home from the tug boat tomorrow and discuss details of what we would like. I'll most likely send you an email from dcbilliotjr6 @ yahoo.

The cruise we did was not what you're used to in the states. There were only about 20 passengers on the ship. We literally tied up to coconut trees at a couple of islands and dove in right off to snorkel at others. The cruise was nearly all Aussies and New Zealanders who are a blast to party with.
This is the company we cruised on. Blue Lagoon Cruises
It was a 3 week honeymoon in 1986. It would be crazy expensive today. We spent a day and two nights in Papeete, Tahiti then 5 nights on Bora Bora. Back to Moorea for 3 days then flew to Fiji for 2 nights and then a 5 night BLue Lagoon Cruise. Finally we flew to Hawaii where we spent another 5 days on Maui. It was the trip of a lifetime.

Second the advice to eat at local restaurants on Bora Bora.
Bloody Mary's is a must. Every famous person that has visited the island has eaten there.
