Trying to decide between the Delta SkyMiles Platinum Business American Express Card and just the regular American Express Business Platinum. Really looking for lounge access for both my wife and I and to take advantage on points for flights and class upgrades…I know this might be comparing apples to apples but both of these caught my eye because of the lounge access.

The platinum. The delta is only good if you are absolutely 100 percent committed to delta. Platinum will get you into centurion where as the delta Amex will not

I take it that my wife is included….she will be a cardholder also

The Plat admits the cardholder unless you spend $75,000 on it in a year allow guest access for "free." This was (allegedly) done to reduce crowding in lounges.
You could add her as an AU for $195 to gain lounge access for her, minus other benefits available to the primary cardholder.

She would have to independently get her own Platinum to have access without paying
Just found this on the web…..not sure if it’s true
For $195 per card, you can add authorized users to your Amex Platinum card (rates & fees). Each authorized user receives the same lounge benefits as the primary cardholder.

Ya, that's true. Brainfart. I'll edit above.
It doesn't have some of the other benefits that the main card does, but that may not matter to you.
Used to be able to get 3 AU plats for $175. Now it's $195 for each individual AU.

Is that $195 a year on top of the annual fee?

Yes, you'll pay $695 for your card and $195 for hers.

Have you looked into Venture X card? Much lower annual fee, and both you and wife will have lounge access paying just for 1 card which is $395/yr. You actually have access for yourself and up to 2 guests in Cap one, priority pass or Plaza premium lounges.
You also wont be tied to just 1 airline (re: delta amex).
AMEX platinum has too many gimmick benefits I wouldnt use personally for that high an annual fee ($15 uber monthly credit, $10 specific restaurant monthly credit, walmart + etc)

If I didn't pretty much fly Delta exclusively(live in Atlanta), I'd probably go Capital One.
I have the Delta Platinum vs the Delta Reserve so I can have flexibility on how I use the points. They probably get used for Delta 80% of the time, but I still have that flexibility, not to mention the regular platinum has more perks than the reserve. I find that I use enough of the perks to get close to paying the fee off every year. I went back and forth on the pros and cons of each, but I ultimately settled on the regular platinum.

For what it’s worth, if your wife is not a platinum AU the delta lounge day pass will be covered by the platinum $200 travel benefit. That comes in handy particularly when flying delta international. I think it’s $50 for the pass.

I fly out of ATL too, but still find myself using other airlines besides Delta fairly often for personal travel. For work travel they will pay for Delta so I always use that but have to put that on the corporate card unfortunately
