Correct. If it was his dads vehicle he doesn’t have to be listed on the policy as an insured, addl insired, etc., he just has to be a permissive user of the vehicle and not a specifically excluded driver. But if you didn’t have any physical injuries, this is pretty much up to your insurance company to pursue in their subrogation claim.

Your not getting the full story as to why the claim was denied. The father probably didn’t have insurance on it either then.
Like the previous poster said your not injured and your insurance carrier already made you whole for the total loss of your vehicle. The only thing your out here is your deductible.
It’s up to them to pursue their subro claim and get their money back whatever way they see fit. Typically the first money they receive back would go to you for your deductible.

Its called “auto insurance” not “driver insurance”. Coverage applies to vehicles on the policy regardless of who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident UNLESS the person who was driving was specifically excluded from the policy, which is a possibility if the son’s driving record was an issue and would’ve made dad’s insurance costs higher. But if dad excluded the son, then the son shouldnt have had the keys

So are rental cars an exception then? Why is my auto insurance cover a rental car and the rental cars are not insured?
What if I have insurance but I drive my friends truck and unbenounced to me he doesn’t have insurance? I’m not covered?

Commercial policies are a little different than personal ones. I forget all the legal mumbo-jumbo on it. If your friend has a company car and lets you borrow it and you wreck it, it's likely the carrier won't cover the claim. Or they'd cover it, then drop the coverage.

This situation varies from state to state. In most states your coverage would cover the liability(if it was your fault) and injuries, but not the damage to your friend's truck. If my memory is right. It's been several years since I was an adjuster.
