Hill basically made his career off the toss dive

I don't believe that the running back "sees the hole quicker" on the toss dive.

maybe we need some ex rb's to answer this question.

we aren't really fooling anyone with our offense...unless we do a waggle or misdirection teams have a pretty good idea where the ball is going based on our tendencies. I think when we run that play it is all about us trying to dominate a team...not trick them.

Also, I don't buy the running back sees the hole quicker argument.

That isn't the argument, and I've seen you make this statement every time this play is discussed. The play is designed to generate the same benefit as an inside zone play. Because it slows the linebacker flow, the running back can pick an interior lane, much like an inside zone play. It isn't that the player can see the holes, he is allowed to pick the hole based on the defenses reaction.

My reaction is that Jeffrey and his merry band prove Russell Honore' right.
No surprise.

I honestly can't remember. How many yards did we get on the play?

This true, and so sad. Les would rather run into a brick wall until it breaks instead over using the ladder to climb over it.

its very frustrating. I would love to see more counters and misdirection...I don't think its a bad thing to try to trick an opponent. Also I believe early in games it helps to wear a defense down...then you can take their will late in the game by running right at them.

No kidding. Les Miles called a running play to open the game and that means that he isn't going to do anything other than run toss dives for the rest of the game.

Then you should love our bend play that we run 15 times a game out of the I formation while people complain that we are running the ball.

Bend Play

Observe the offensive line blowing Kentucky two yards off the ball before Magee can reach the line. That's why we run the ball, folks.

I don't mind the play but I wish they wouldn't run it on the first play of the game.

EVERYBODY knows it's coming so we end up with a 2nd & long.

This!!! No mystery at all what's coming.

What was the first play against New Mexico State last year just out of curiosity? Guess what it looked like.

Are you implying that the LSU offense of the last 8 years has not been known to stay in 2 back sets and ram into 8 and 9 man boxes for most of the game?

Our playcalling does generally well in between the 20's. But when the field gets shorter, it's harder to move that ball only by running it.

THAT'S our problem.

I'm not implying anything. I am straight up telling you that LSU didn't start winning conference games last season until they started running the ball 70% of the time. Jennings couldn't throw. It isn't a good strategy to throw the ball all around when your guy can't throw. The fact that you want to run the offense that got LSU down to State and their brakes beaten off against Auburn shows that you don't appreciate the necessity of what they did last year.

In terms of the other years, your characterization is incorrect.
