You cannot control your legacy

You can only control what you do on the field. Your legacy is determined by how people view and honor what you do on the field. If LSU chooses to honor JD, that’s great! They should, and I’m certain they will, but they don’t have to honor you on your terms. This is a very bad look for JD. He was an absolute highlight show at LSU, but he doesn’t get to control how he’s honored. Him trying to control it is ridiculous.

Right. Who is he to try and own the number? And regardless what his camp says it sounds like they are comparing it to LSU not giving out 9. If so, why is he comparing himself to Burrow?
He could have been disappointed, but still handled this with class by wishing LSU and DJ well. Maybe I'm wrong, but I could see so many other former Heisman winners taking the high road here.

Weird way to word that but I know what you mean. People can’t control others opinions of them. They can only do what they want and what they think is right.

You cannot control your legacy. You can control your play on the field. If it turns into a great legacy, that’s not up to you. It’s up to the people who choose to honor you or not. Your only say in your legacy is how you played, and JD played damn good. He gave plenty of reason to have a great legacy, but he’s trying to control it now, and he can’t. He’s only hurting himself in the eyes of the people who do control his legacy. Is that clear as mud?
