If coming in early Thursday. Try to get to LSU campus during the day on Thursday or Friday. Hang out in the Quad for a little while. Go by the Union, get in on a pick up game of flag football or soccer on the Parade Grounds. See Mike the Tiger early. They pull him out for his trailer early on game days. If your a runner, go run the trails around the lakes of LSU & Sorority Rowe.

As already said, wear your WVU gear and prepare to be tigerbaited, but if you are a good sport, people will welcome you in with open arms & feed you like crazy.

Get in early walk around campus then go get some quality grub...Walk Ons, Chimes, Mike Anderson's, George's, Past times, TJ Ribs, Brew Bachers. Drink a Abita and any of those places.

If your a college student go to Fred's or Shady's at 8 get some free drinks until 10. By that time you'll be feeling pretty good, then go to the bar that is the most hoppin and pass a good time!

Then pass out wake up drink some water put on the walking shoes and walk anywhere around campus. You will not struggle to get offered some food and beer as long as you stay cool when you get "tiger baited"

As a Yankee with LSU in-laws (I actually grew up in Western MD, a couple hours from Morgantown), I can confirm that Mike Anderson's is good stuff. The first time they took me there, they said they'd pay for my dinner as long as I ordered the crawfish sampler. As kids, we used to catch crawfish (we called them crayfish or crawdads) and make them fight, so I thought it was weird to actually eat one. But it was delicious.

If you go there, be sure to get their onion rings as well. Dip in some Tiger Sauce, and YUM!

You know, at this point, i don't care if the WV people show up, but can you save a place for me? Blackened redfish, crawfish etouffe', and a few beers while chacking out scores and games.

Obvviously i've been doing this tailgate thing all wrong. I'm going to start wearing the other teams colors (up until game time of course) to get free food and booze. LOL

If you don't mind a little drive thursday or Friday night "Kevins" on the Diversion canal is an excellent seafood place.

I am pretty sure gameday activities have been completely covered up till now.

I would check out the southside of LSU campus late at night, venture off into the neighborhoods and just enjoy the old architecture. If you're in town a couple of days, I recommend the 9th ward in New Orleans, also a wonderful nightime attraction.

Sorry, but there are three restaurants in Madisonville that beats the hell out of anything in Baton Rouge....just sayin... I lived in Baton Rouge 20 years and Love LSU but as far as anything else... chain restaurants, horrible traffic and a shitty downtown scene...

There are a couple of crystal footballs (and a trophy from the B.BCS. era) on display in the athletic department. I mean, when are you ever going to get any closer to one of those?

Take a stroll along the lakefront in front of the sorority houses. Most lovely scenery in America. And the lake is kind of nice as well. The original "quad" area, filled with ancient oak trees that are, well, stately, and magnolias that are, among other things, broad.

I'm on an airplane as I type, flying to New Orleans. I will be in Baton Rouge by noon, so if you see me, stop and we'll chat. I will be wearing the LSU shirt. Can't miss me.

Mostly, it will be the people that make your trip memorable. Don't be shy about engaging us in conversation.

Have fun. It should be very enjoyable until about 8:15 on Saturday evening.

Sorry to rant, I just think that Baton Rouge could really be a great destination outside of LSU and fought for that only to have political leaders push their own agendas...Now I live on the Tchefuncte river and only go to Baton Rouge for games, don't spend a dime on anything else..
