For every head coach your game plan is always to play to your strengths and expose the other teams weaknesses. Well from what I have seen there isn't much weakness on your defensive side of the ball. If anything I feel you defense is the biggest threat to score. So I actually think Holgy will go with a conservative gameplan. Alot of screens short passes and slants. Try and get the ball out of Geno's hands as soon as possible. OBVIOUSLY LIMIT TURNOVERS...
Now I think we gain a edge with our defense because your offense hasn't really been tested this year or asked to do alot. The 3-3-5 gives alot of teams fits simply because teams dont see it too often. Im sure you would say well what about Maryland they scored on you. Well look who their coach is. Edsall has been playing against Casteels D for many years now. He knows how to attack it and one thing is for sure you better have a accurate QB.

This game isn't about our Offense vs your Defense. They basicly cancel each other out. Its all about your Offense against our Defense... And this is where I believe we gain a edge.
What? You don't know shite about football. How do they cancel each other out when your offense is one dimensional and ours can defend anything you try to throw at us? We have at least 4 defensive backs that are going to be playing in the NFL, 3 of them could go in the 1st round. They don't cancel each other out, all y'all have is a passing attack, giving us more of an opportunity to play a 3-2-6 and drop back 7 players in coverage, we don't even need to blitz, our D line can bring pressure by themselves.
Y'alls defense last year was great, definitely one of the best in the country. But y'all lost Nield, Hogan, Thomas, and Sands to the draft. Those four players had a big impact in the LSU game last year. Your D line is small and weak against the run, same goes for your LB's. Bruce Irvin can't pass rush every single play.
Advantage to LSU for both, only advantage WVU has is home field.

How does a 3-3-5 stop a power rushing attack?our o-line is going to wear that arse out.

So you're confident WV will stop LSU's running game?

Two big points that W.V. is forgetting about:
1. Our O-line will wear down your defense late and there is no way around this.
2. This is the best defense Geno will ever see in his college career. Our DBs will blanket your WR, and our D-line will be making Geno make quick (maybe even bad) decisions. The worst thing for an accurate QB is having pressure all night to where he will get frustrated.

As a player and a coach, I can tell you that it can't. The 3-3-5 is a blitzing defensive scheme, of which you will blitz almost exclusively every single play.
This defense is NOT built to stop a good downhill running football team. The 3-3-5 is similar in some ways to the 4-2-5 in that the defense is predicated on "speed" and securing the outside edges, and you force everything to go north & south.
With superb linebacker & safety play, one could slow down a running team. But it is asking alot from your big men up front to go 4 qtrs defending a "bruising" running attack.

Stop? No Limit? Yes
The goal of the 3-3-5 defense is to prevent big plays and limit TD's. So for the most part rushing you guys will get your 3 to 5 yds per carry but then when things get into the redzone our D will tighten up and try and force a FG. If we can do that more times than not then the defense did its job.

i love that the first and so far only WVU fan that replied said they would rely on "MAGIC" in the 4th quarter to get a win. youll need magic alright buddy.

West Virginia wins if:
1. The West Virginia intermediate passing game moves the chains with quick passes and good pass blocking; and
2. The West Virginia special teams make at least one big play (either TD or turnover); and
3. LSU's offense turns the ball over more than twice.

I have been thinking about this game all week, and I can't see wv stopping lsu's running game. I see lsu going over 200 yards on the ground. Playaction passes over the top to stretch the field. Wv will prolly come out and move the ball in the first half, but lsu will adjust and take advantage of any mistakes. Wv's secondary is pretty good, but they will be playing a nickel formation all day long against a power I offense. Lsu rolls in the 4th. If wv plays it's best game, I see it being close. If lsu plays well it will win.

LSU is 100% in the red zone, and 66% or about 2/3 of all scores as TDs, and your defense gives up about 50 lbs/man with a 253# average
With 5 - 7 minute drives eating the clock, your offense will have be hard pressed to defeat our Mustang Package and disguised Zone blitzes ... And Geno will get the living snot knocked out of him often and early ... He goes out and school's out and it gets ugly early ... He hangs and maybe you score 17 ... Don't count on success in crossing routes against this dee/not without picks/and the number of picks in this game could be more than one

WV has a chance because it's in a hostile environment (yes LSU has been in worse, but that's not the point), WV lost to LSU last year and despite LSU dominating MSU last week that game was one silly turnover away from being a 7 point lead by MSU in the 4th. Point is MSU was right with LSU.
Those would be the reasons, I would think, that WV thinks they have a chance.

Defense
You'd better hope that your offense stays on the field for long periods of time. Your defense is way undersized and the 3-3-5 is not a good defense for stopping interior running. If LSU wins the TOP by more than 5:00, they'll win the game because your defense will be exhausted come the fourth quarter.

Yes and last I checked, we can run the ball at will. So how will WV defense stop the run? Please explain. Do you realize we have guys in the backfield that will slice up your defense all night long.

Kind of.
We averaged over 4 yards a carry against you last year.
