what i find hilarious is that since the day he was hired trent has preached ad nauseum 'defend and rebound with a sense of urgency'
This S. Trent professes to be a man defensive guy, yet I don't see any team in college basketball that teaches man the way he does. And for good reason...it does not work. I'm still trying to figure out what he's doing. It makes no sense.
We actually play much better defense when we go zone, which Trent says is not his forte.
And we were running some good offene at times last night, but when it got tight Trent goes back to that high ball screen crap from last year and the offense gets bogged down. Why he thinks the very thing we do worst is our best option in crunch time really baffles me.

Yes we did. It was one of the most painful things for a Tiger BBall fan to watch I can remember. Time and again we free lanced on offense to no avail. We seemingly couldn't or wouldn't get it to Hamilton even 12 feet from the bucket. All of them looked tired with no energy being expended.
They lost their man on defense and he either scored or dished off for an easy bucket after our big men left theirs to compensate.
Stringer was actually playing one of his better games until crunch time and then he just fell apart. He jacked up and missed a three, he drove into traffic and lost the ball. I think he even missed a free throw although I would have to go back and check on that.
I have been a supporter of Trent and said give him time but after last night the time is up. The refusal to go to a zone, which actually worked pretty well the few times he has used it, or to make any other adjustments during this game just was pathetic.
The Northwestern loss was one I can write off to the players but this one is solidly on the coach and his staff. If you can't beat South Alabama at home how are you going to beat Miss. State or anyone else in the SEC?
A promising season has just gone into the dumpster until proven otherwise. And I am not holding my breath for improvement.

agree.
i've had off board conversations with some of our fellow posters and none of us can just seem to figure the guy out.
and why were chris bass and malcolm white even close to the floor in overtime? baffling.

With the obvious exception of football the LSU athletic department is as flat as its ever been. There are a number of schools not traditionally considered to be in LSU's caliber, Baylor and Vandy come to mind, who are putting forth a better overall athletic program than LSU these days.
WTF are you talking about ? Baseball is very good, track is one of the best , We have the men's and women's US amateur golf champions, tennis is good, Gymnastics is always good. The only sport we totally suck at is basketball. You have no fricking idea WTF you're talking about. Typical uninformed LSU fan.

Even in his first year...remember him insisting on putting CJ on the other teams best post option and leaving him twisting in the wind with no help repeatedly. Man that's just common sense.
And I've just never seen a team give the ball handler a driving lane repeatedly. I've never seen that defensive strategy employed.

Bass can at least defend but he's so limited offensively it compromises us too much on the other end. And poor Malcolm, the only thing he seems to do well is foul.
