chancellor came here to finally go to the final four and maybe win an NC to complete his resume .. then the sawed off genius doesn't double or even front candace parker and lets her dribble the length of the court in the final seconds unimpeded and allows UT to win in the semis on a put back at the buzzer .. after that, it has been all downhill ... i am really surprised he has stuck around as long as he has ..

Fire Van NOW!!! He has run our program into the ground. The guy has no fire left in him. He's a clown entertainer and couldn't really care less about winning it all. It's past time to go. He inherited a hell of a team and Starkey (not Van in my opinion) took that team to our last final four which was the 5th in a row. Then the decline began and it's gone steadily down hill to this point where we weren't even invited to the NCAA's for the first time since 1998? Unbelievable if they don't fire him immediately!

Great comment, frick-head. Well thought out and representative of your intelligence.
I would like for someone trained in psychology to explain to me why someone would intentionally click on a thread which is clearly marked with the topic, just to announce to all that he doesn't care about the topic and that nobody else should either.

Despite losing Big 12 record, UT women reach tourney
UT (19-13 overall) finished 7-9 during league play and was 0-11 against teams ranked in the AP Top 25, but still was seeded higher than several other at-large teams.

This is why Van has a right to be steamed....

That's Frese's BASE salary. I'm pretty sure she makes more than Pokey was making when she was let go ($400K). However, if that IS the case, then Frese actually would be a good hire for LSU. I'm not sold on her X's and O's but she's GREAT motivator. She could keep Starkey for the game management / strategy.

Whether he is or not, Van has NO right to be steamed. What happened to LSU (and other bubble teams that didn't get it) was their own doing.
--2 point loss to Tulane
--4 point loss to Ohio State early in the year
--blew 18 point lead vs S. Carolina and lost by 2
--2 point loss to Arkansas
--2 point losses to Kentucky TWICE
--loss to Arkansas at home in which LSU didn't score a single point for the first 10 minutes of the game
LSU has no right to be mad at anyone. Win even ONE of the above games, and they get in.

The difference is Coach Chatman was an inexperienced coach who made some young coach mistakes BUT did recruit the players on our 5 Final Four teams...Van made a rookie coach mistake in the last Final Four agt TN that if he'd put pressure on the ball, TN wouldn't have had time to get off 2 shots for the winning basket and that year we win the Nat'l Champ...besides that, I'll take going to the Final Four every year and NOT winning to sitting at home watching everyone else play...any day!

Mulkey is poison...think a minute...the year Pokey resigned, there were a number of SEC coaching positions available and Mulkey, despite being a very good coach, was not mentioned for a single opening....there's a reason for that...she's not a good fit for LSU...Baylor pays her a million to stay in Wacko...she should stay there. There's some great coaches out there. Caldwell, Rizzoti, the coach at Xavier, etc. we should have a nat'l search...we've got terrific facilities, a loyal fanbase, and all the other attributes to compete with anybody.

..................and tremendous financial support. Which is something we DIDN'T have before Skip Bertman became the AD. Everything is in place for this program to re-assert itself among the elite and, it wouldn't take more than a year. The talent is there and they have talent coming in next season. Talent-wise, this team next year could be a final four contender. There's no doubt in my mind about that.....................especially with the potential we have on the front line!

Geno Auriemma and Pat Summit, with their $1 million salaries, say you can eat a bowl of dicks.

LSU had a good run with the best talent in the country for 2 or 3 years. Augustus was great most of the time, but like a cold shooting ball hog like Lebron, she was prone to cold games at the worst possible times.
Just like Lebron, LSU back then was all about Augustus shooting 30 times a game. LSU won a ton of those games then, just like Cleveland. However, cold shooting in the final 4 prevented a championship, just as Cleveland did not win a championship either.
LSU teams then were not teams per se. They were more vehicles for SA to score which usually caused LSU to win. It did not however, develop the team nor did it promote a "team" atmosphere.
That LSU didn't get to a final or win a final when big Sylvia was here, was utterly amazing. The woman could have dominated the game much more so than she did, primarily because Augustus was allowed to be the primary offensive threat. Back then, LSU should have gone to Slyvia far more than they did.
That said, Augustus should be given some credit for signing with her home team, and helping raise LSU to new standards. The excitement of being a major part of a resurgent program certainly helped recruiting. So far as Van goes, he certainly knows how to coach but just does not have the personnel that Chatman, who was WAY in over her head, had. Had Van been here back then, LSU might well have won the whole thing.
Lastly, I cannot fathom why LSU would turn down an NIT bid - it just seems unfathomable that they would decline. That some have said LSU didn't want to spend the money this way,is absurd. Surely, LSU doesn't mind spending some of it's warchest from Football on other sports.

Yea, I DO agree that the team was too reliant on Seimone during the final four. But at the same time, she was the best player in the country and, unlike Lebron, she shot over 50% from the floor every season she was here. It's hard NOT to give a player like that the ball and allow her to shoot the most. But, when they got to the final four, it did indeed come back to bite them because no one else other than Temeka, was assertive enough on offense to share the load at that point.
I disagree, however with Chatman being in over her head. She was a young coach but, clearly was the reason the team played as well as it did winning two SEC championships and making three final fours. That's tremendous for a 35 or 36 year old coach who lost to Pat Summitt, Kim Mulkey, and Gail Goestenkors in those three final fours. All of whom were older, more experienced coaches than she was. I DO NOT however, believe that Van could've gotten those teams to the final four. Maybe the '04-'05 team, but not any of the others. Not with the style that he uses......
