And I understand that it’s not as important as going to the Final Four or the Sweet 16, but it’s important to me because I’ve watched the SECT since 1987 (we lost to Auburn 100-62 that year, but also went to the Elite 8) and we’ve never won, at least not since 1981, the year I was born. The best we’ve ever done was make it to the Championship in 1993, and we lost to Kentucky. We beat Vandy in the semis that same year, which some say was a game LSU had to have to get into the NCAAT. It also snowed in Walker that weekend and that was cool.

Some detractors will say it’s a meaningless tournament, and that’s fine. I just want to get that automatic bid one time, and hang another banner in the rafters of the PMAC.

What about the year that Shaq got in a fight and couldn't play vs Kentucky in 1992. That one hurt. I really want that tournament too at some point. But, a Final four is more important.

The SECT is one of my favorite annual LSU events. Rushing home Thursday or Friday afternoon to catch tip off, hoping to advance and earn a weekend date with Kentucky. Hasn't worked out for us yet but I'd love to win it.

Not sure we have the depth this year but would love to see us make a run.

Yep, part of the issue was Dale de-emphasized the SEC tourney fairly early on when it was re-instated in 1979. He would not put much into it unless he felt LSU needed to win some games to get in the dance. I did not agree with that but that was his stance.

Still we had some good teams under Brady and one under Trent that were capable of winning it but never even made the Finals.

One of my best LSU sports memories was going to the one SEC tourney final we did win in 1980. Dwayne Scales went off in the second half and we beat those Bowie and Kyle Macy Cats in that thrilling final in Birmingham.

I think we've only even made the finals twice since if I'm not mistaken.

It is if your team is already in the NCAA tournament. The conference tournaments are nothing more than money grabs selling a Cinderella story.

I remember this well. We beat Vandy by 10. 70-60 if I remember correctly. And I played in the snow. I was 10. I remember the WAFB anchor saying "What's more unlikely than LSU beating Vanderbilt? Snow in Baton Rouge!" Or something along those lines.

My parents were still together and my dad was still alive. Fond memories.
