I don't think much of Calipari as an in-game coach, but he's created a brand that sustains success.
You don't win as much as he's won, for as long as he's won, at 3 different stops without being able to coach. If anything, he's an underrated in-game coach. I think his best attribute as a game coach is understanding his personnel and being able to get them to play a style that lends itself to success.
He knows he's going to have constant roster turnover from year to year. Thus, implementing a complicated or complex offense really isn't an option. He has to essentially start from scratch each year. Couple that with tremendous talent, and he makes the relatively simple concept of the dribble-drive offense work.
He also takes a bunch of big time individual talents and egos, and humbles them in to playing as a team. Cal has no problem losing his shite on a lottery pick who is not doing things the way Cal wants them done. He'll also "embarrass" guys by subbing in 5 new players at a time when the group on the floor is playing poorly.
It's hard to bring together 7-8 guys who ALL think they are the best player on team. Cal does as good a job as anyone in managing the egos.

You’re absolutely right. You really don’t see his players free styling. They play as a team within the structure of the offense.

Cal is a top 3 coach, if not #1. Still love Wade

I don’t know for sure but I don’t think Calipari was doing what WW is doing at his age.
Wade is 36. Calipari had UMass ranked #1 before he turned 36. They went to a regional final as a 2 seed that year and the final four as a 1 seed the following year.
You can look this stuff up.

Lol. Either troll or genuinely stupid. Not sure which.

What was record in year 2 at umass? That seems like a more accurate apples to apples comparison.
At this point in time, nobody would suggest Wade is better than Cal. But if you’re gonna look at Cals 4th year record, then let’s give Will the same grace period given he took over one of the most talent deficient rosters in the nation. Fair?

Maybe by the time he’s Caliparis age. He has a few decades

Here’s the biggest difference. Cal took over at UMASS, Wade took over at LSU. That’s a pretty big difference.

I’d argue the shape of our program was about as bad as anyone could have.
