re: Will the true LSU fans please stand up...........

To say you have to attend LSU to be a "real" fan is ludicrous. you have to graduate from LSU to be an ALUMNUS. It has nothing to do with being a fan. A fan is someone who follows and supports the team by buying tickets, merchandise, makes contributions, pays astronomical fees for parking passes, RV lots, etc. etc. etc. To say you can't really be a fan if you don't graduate from there is beyond stupid.

Sounds like this needs to be re-posted as:
Should you be an alumni of LSU to be considered a real fan?

tops doesnt cover very much, like 10,000 dollars which doesnt touch LSU tuition
What is TOPS?
The Tuition Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS) provides students attending a Louisiana public college or university an amount equal to tuition at the school attended. Students may receive TOPS for up to eight semesters.

Fail...Did you even get the point. There are kids out there who grow up living and dying LSU because of their family shared great Tiger moments with them. I am not talking about bandwagonners asshat. I am talking about people who have been fans for decades and their children. Personally, I have followed LSU all my life. I attended LSU and graduated from SLU. I follow LSU athletics with a passion and I am already sharing these moments with my 3 yo son who has attended plenty of games. One of my good friends, "joe redneck", hasn't missed a home game in 12 years. However, I know plenty of alumni who could give a rat's arse about anything LSU.
This is true....and I am an LSU graduate.
However...and this has less to do with being an LSU graduate and more to do with being a Southerner...it is absolutely unbearable when the drunk moron swamp folk crawl out of their holes to go to an LSU game, only to make enough noise and talk enough dumb shite to make our entire fanbase look like poor (not financially...socially), cheesedick, backwoods, uneducated morons.
I brought a couple of folks that I work with to the game this past weekend...a few from the midwest, and a few from Texas. After trying to explain to them for months that not everyone from the south is a dumb, dirty, redneck, racist, they see these rats crawl out of the dredges and scream and holler profanity and racial slurs in a thick southern drawl that screams "uneducated".
I know that most of these people are good people at heart, and I know that they bleed P&G, but that doesn't mean it doesn't piss me off that they make our entire fanbase look like dumbshits.

Thank you, Luke. Graduates are going to have a greater likelihood of representing themselves better at university events because they have thae much more invested in the school. It's more of a pride issue, not just a party issue.
This doesn't apply to everyone, but it really appears that non-graduates are much more apt to make fools out of themselves at university events than graduates.

With all due respect, you can't frick up in life and then get pissed because people who didn't frick up were rewarded for not fricking up with...say...a college education.
I commend you for trying to get back into school, but it sounds like your failure to attend LSU wasn't anyone's fault but your own. I would venture to say that this is the case for a HIGH percentage of the folks that "wish" they could attend LSU, but it just "wasn't in the cards". Especially with all the financial help available out there.

You're fricking joking I hope? How the frick can you possibly know if the idiots at football games are alumni or not? Just stop it already huh?

So much for football being the church of the South. I feel ya Luke, but when you are talking about 140,000 people showing up to tailgate and only 92,000 are going to the game, you are bound to get a wide breadth of humanity. Plus, I know plenty of professionals who sound ignorant as all shite after they get a few drinks in them. Hey, we let the good times roll down here. By nature, we (citizens of Louisiana) are a bit louder, more passionate, more boisterous and crazier than the rest of the country. Just learn to embrace it. You never know when you'll be stranded in rural Louisiana and the only connection you have with the man trying to help is that tattoo of Tiger Stadium on his back. (Not me BTW)

All I ask is that those who didn't graduate from the school I worked my fricking arse of at treat my school (and it's alumni) with the respect that they've earned.
Acting like a baffoon, racist, thug, cheesedick disrespects me by belittling my education in the eyes of the rest of the civilized world. For that, I have every right to be pissed at these idiots.
I'm all for non-LSU alumni loving LSU and being huge fans. Just realize that when you do it, you represent the university and vicariously the education that was worked very hard for by it's alumni.

Embrace it? I LOVE IT! I'm not talking about people getting shitfaced and acting stupid. I'm talking about people who make us all look like poor, racist, gutter scum. This has very little to do with alcohol.

I know. I love 90% of the culture of Louisiana. However, I hate the 10% of the culture that believes that there's no need to better yourself by getting an education, dressing somewhat presentable, and not blaring douchebag music all over campus on gameday.

Classic sign of what I'm talking about. It is completely classless to brag about how much money you make.
But since we're being classless, I'm make twice that no matter how many hours I work (usually less than 40 a week). And I'm willing to bet I'm half your age.
shite, you don't go to college for a starting salary. You go for an UPSIDE on your salary.
I work in the offshore oil industry, and there are people without a high-school degree that were my age making more than me when I started. And they'll be making a SLIGHT bit more when they retire. Meanwhile, my salary will have tripled.
