Will Russel Shephard be the next Trindon Holiday?

In the way that Holiday was the guy that everyone kept waiting to break out with his great speed and everyone thought needed more touches. Holiday never seemed to rise above much more than a gadget player who was great for returns and 2-3 touches a game.

I know he just came back from the suspension but like other posters have stated O.B. has looked better from day one. Will Shephard become the player everyone claims he is suppose to be?

I do not believe so, unfortunately.

Shep is a good runner, but he wasn't a WR in HS and he doesn't run good pass routes to get open. Both Beckham and Landry are better WRs than Shep. RR is #1 Beckham #2 and Boone and Landry are #3a and #3b.

he's been back one game. Give him time and give Kragthorpe time to finally use him correctly with more carries than passes thrown to.

Does Shephard have the elite speed to compete with the other receivers. I mean he always looked quick and I know he was fast for a QB but how fast is he? Maybe someone has posted how fast he is before don't know.

I don't think he will because while he does have speed, he isn't as quick as Holiday. When Trindon found space, he was as good as gone.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, to me he is a much better runner than WR. Not that he is going to be an every down running back, but that's where to me all of his big plays have come from. And please got something besides the sweep! Thats all they do with him, it's so painfully obvious

yeah. 5 carries a game and maybe 2 passes is how he should get the ball. he could be the "wildcat" QB but we just brought JJ at that and he is a terrible runnning QB and a terrible option QB so Les will give him that role.

Russell Shepard will have his chances this year. If you paid attention to the WVU game he had 3 passes land at his feet. A few were JL just throwin it short(it's like JL was nervous throwing to RS), one might have been because he ran too far to get around a player in his route. His one catch was thrown pretty high but he may have been able to catch it and run if he just jumped instead of doing the acrobatics(it may have been behind him which makes it hard to keep forward momentum).

Hopefully we will see him get the ball with a blocker or two in front of him and see him use his feet to beat the other defenders.

I don't know the 40 yard times of any of our receivers but Shephard was a reasonably quick QUARTERBACK who switched to receiver. On average I would think most receivers on the team would have to be pretty quick to be recruited to a program like LSU.

Shepard needs less touches, unfortunately.
