I think people are kind of forgetting this a bit. Mett is not an incoming freshman like Zach Lee was this year. Dude will be a 21-year-old, 3rd-year QB, who played A LOT last year (even though it was JUCO). His situation is somewhat unique. Most JUCO Qbs were either less talented late bloomers or didn't have the grades to go D-I. Mett and Cam Newton's situations coming in are pretty unique.

I agree with you, but to reiterate my Uncommon Cents arguement he has said multiple times Mett's experience is non-existent. That if you haven't played against SEC defenses, it doesn't count. The experience JJ has against SEC defenses means he should be the unquestioned starter. Go through his posts, it's there.

Does it really matter right now?? Another useless QB thread by a person with too much time on his hands...

If true, then either:

1. He has really improved-not likely IMO
2. Mettenberger possibly not what advetised.

Hey thats what spring training is all about.
Lets see who shows up on the field.
Problem with any QB is pressure.
Given enough time most any college qb can put the ball in the recivers hands. Les always says what great practice JJ had. Duh no SEC quality rush and no knock your head off your shoulders blitz.

Met is not green he played a season in JC so he has game experience. Granted not SEC quality but never the less he is not fresh out of high school.

Some of JJ problems stems from OL not blocking but some passes to reciver's shoes or to the fan in the tenth row were just down right poor passing skills.
Even if you are a 5* receiver if you dont have confidence in the QB getting the ball to you, its hard to play 100% every down. You work your arse off to get open and then see the ball sail ten feet over your head. well you get the point.

Do you ever read Uncommon Cents posts? No matter what you post, his arguement is 11-2...11-2...doesn't matter how shitty JJ was...11-2 so he should be the starter. His favorite arguement is Ole Miss had better passing stats, but JJ won more games. I would think that qualifies as a JJ warrior that thinks he can do no wrong.

Ok junior how about looking at the flip side of the insidious attacks on JJ. I'll ignore the elephant in the room right now and point out a couple of things.

LSU won 11 games with JJ at the helm. Do any of you think that Lee would have won more? 11 fu cking games. Why does that make you so pi$$ed off? I know that all of you are experts on everything but to spend as much time and energy running down the QB that won 11 games makes me think there is another motivation, which you will all deny.

You people keep splashing around meaningless stats. The only and I do mean ONLY stat that matters is wins. Anything else is just empty blather. If LSU were to win a MNC and JJ wouldn't throw a single TB pass I would be happy. But those whose only concept of foorball is Gameboy will bitch and cry. Grow the fu ck up. Winning isn't every thing, it's the only thing.(Apologies VL)
I have never said that JJ can do no wrong. But the truth, whether you fools can see it or not, is that he won games. He is a warrior. Not perfct, but not deserving of the hatred some of you feed on. Piling on is so easy. You make your selves feel manly somehow by posting the same tired old attacks on somebody who has given more to LSU football than you ever will. Write the stuff that you would never have the guts to say to his face.
When you walk the walk, come back and talk the talk.

I hate to jump in and try to bring a bit of reality here, but UC has a lot of truth in is posts.
He is a bit out there some of the time, but he does have his points. On the other hand most of you simply repeat what has been written ad nauseum. How much intelligence does it take to simply repeat stuff that has been posted all year long? What possible motivation can you JJ bashers have? In my view it's all pretty childish.
Here's a challenge for you. Post something new, different and enlightning. Give us something well thought out and with depth.

If JJ plays to his potential like he did in the bowl game, I think he will. And I wish him well, but when he starts egressing like he did early on this past season- I say pull the plug on his solo act and go with the 2 QB scheme again.

He had a bad year

The offense had 2 bad seasons stat wise and that's why LSU has a new OC.

JJ was disappointly up and down last year from game to game or even from quarter to quarter, but beginning with Bama he was pretty solid for the most part.

How much Mett plays will depend on how quick he adjusts his game to big time college football cause we don't start the season with the likes of a No. Tex, but with a NCG player.

Last season was the first time since '06 that LSU's starting QB remained virtually injury-free for a whole season. In fact, in only 3 of the eleven seasons of LSU's current glory days,('03,'06,'10) has the primary starting QB not missed some significant time with injury. And I would add that Lee gaining a significant amount of playing time last season helped to keep JJ in one piece. So the odds are against anyone being able to start every game. I think that much like 2010 you will see two guys ready to start each and every week partly because of competition and partly due to the brutal beating that SEC QB's take. So I don't see anyone being able to start every game for the Tigers next year though I hope I am wrong.

I agree that the offense sucked against Arkansas, but it was a group effort, not just Jefferson.

Well said StatMaster. I also recall the offense saving our asses vs. Ole Miss.

11-2 requires a total team effort.

If Mettenberger can read defenses, go through progressions and check off at line of scrimmage Kragthorpe will have no option but to start him. JJs
inability to do these things is his biggest liability.

Good stuff. I can't wait to see Mett make it rain on hapless opponents.

JJ is unable to perform any of these basic skills critical to the position, but UC will still try and convince you he is an awesome QB.

No kidding!!

Hasn't taken a snap for LSU yet in any kinda situation, but he's a sure thing to start the 1st game of the year.

Boy, I sure hope he's another Cam or he's in for a longggggggg season based off the expectations some hold for him.
