Will Emery get to use his freakish talent or will he be "Shepard'ed"?

I know Emery has time to come into his own but his lack of utilization made me think about Shepard. These two had arguably the best HS tape of any offensive players we've signed in the last 20 yrs. Shepard was miscast in his days at LSU. He wasn't a big guy but should've had 10-15 touches/game, primarily out of the backfield. He was electric in space but couldn't catch.

One thing that has hindered them both is a lack of creativity. Yeah we sling it all over the yard now, but we don't give Emery near enough shots at getting on the edge. For the life of me I don't understand why you don't utilize Emery/TDP in the same backfield. Emery split to slot and running jet sweeps just seems like a great way to use his speed and also open up holes for TDP. Here's hoping they try to get him more incorporated in the game plan. We'll need him badly if Brennan is out for extended period.

Hahaha....some of you people arge just to argue. I sadi that Emery still has a chance to light it up but through basically a season and a half, he's had little impact compared to his obvious talent. You and the other mouth=-breathers on here think I'm blaming Emery. Quite the contrary. He will be a game-changer when the coaches scheme for him to be prominently involved. I think the guy is a stud.

Sincerely...you 3rd grade name-calling just says you don't know crap about footabll and your just on here to be a internet bad A. Good for you child...now go play Fortnite!

I don't even think Shepard was a huge waste of talent. His NFL career effectively mirrored his college career--backup WR, special teams ace, locker room leader. He simply wasn't who the recruiting scouts originally thought he was.

Calm down huh? It was a comparison of two guys with freakish athleticism. I heard the same thing about Shepard his whole career here. You know what? It never changed!! I don't want to see Emery's talent wasted like Shepard's was.

Do you not think thats a legit concern? The game had a breakout game only to get 3 rushes the next game. Pay attention and acknowledge that he's our most dynamic back and he's not involved.

Biggest waste of talent in LSU history is Danielle Hunter

Sam Montgomery and Craig Loston could have been more productive than they were. I wanna say both were 5 star recruits.

Well check the record. He sucked as a WR at LSU and he was just an elite athlete that NFL teams realized could make big plays on occasion. He was never more than a third option. He was never that high at LSU. If we were just trying to use him to help win games, he would not of played WR. He would've touched the ball at wildcat QB/RB and slot.

so we use him in basically the exact same way the NFL did, but we did it wrong?

face it, the dude played exactly where he should have played.
there is a reason no other team offered him a chance to be a QB.
there is a reason he was never used as a RB type in the NFL as well.

And because the vast majority here don't actually read OP's and just swim into a thread like sharks in the water, the original intent of the thread get skewed.

My point was both guys are/were extremely gifted athletes. One was wasted and the other hasn't found his footing yet. I acknowledged that Emery has plenty of time to become a star at LSU. IT'S THE COACH'S JOB to make sure it happens. He's a stud but so was Shepard. I'm a huge fan of Emery's talent and hope like crazy he doesn't go down as Russell Shepard and goes down as CEH.
