It should have been 1st down and 10 yards to go from the 16 yard line.

This shows no 15 yard penalty.

1st and goal from the one as opposed to first and goal from the 16. That is a penalty being enforced. How is that different from what the refs gave them?

It may be the ruling but it still permitted but still detracted from the foul and yardage for goal and turned it into first and ten.

It is not why the game had the outcome it did, I just think it is a wrong ruling or as it is, rule.

How does 1st and goal from the 1 turned into 1st and 10 from the 16 not reflect a 15 yard penalty?

You honestly have to try to be this dumb.

Show me the penalty in allowing for a first and ten as opposed to 1st and goal from the 16?

Yes I am dim.

Can you honestly say there is not? dude.

Did you guys not watch the LSU/Ole Miss game? LSU stopped Ole Miss on 4th down with about 2 minutes left in the game, and received a dead ball, unsportsmanlike conduct penalty after the play (celebration penalty). The ball was moved back 15 yards, and LSU played 1st and 10. Those 15 yards proved vital as Ole Miss did move into field goal range with a few seconds left.

Why wasn't anyone complaining after Ole Miss that we should have been playing 1st and 25 after the dead ball penalty?

they pushed them back 15 yards.

then the down and distance reset.

the same thing would have happened at any position in between the 20's. Maybe that will help you understand better

Yep. This is how penalties work. I am stunned by this much confusion/stupidity over this issue.

NCAA Rule Book

I hope the attached link works. You can buy a hard copy of the rule book or download it for free. Some may want to save a copy for future reference.

The back of the book has a section for approved rulings and interpretations. It has some specific game situations for each rule.

Note - if the unsportmanslike conduct penalty would have happened after the ball was marked ready for play then it would have been first and goal from the 16 yard line. However, in the situation we are discussing the foul occurred after the play was dead but before the ball was made ready for play.
