COLE TRACY - Current Stats - 17/19 (89.5%) 23/23 PAT

Cole has 5 games remaining. Historically, the Groza committee will consider a kicker with FG percentages in the high 80s. Cole is already there. Just going 5/5 the remainder of the season puts him in the low 90s with clearly enough of a FG sample size to satisfy the committee. Cole is perfect on PATs for the year and I think if we can score 10-15 TDs this puts his numbers up around the mid to high 30s. This is not far off from the PAT stats Gay and Gonzales had when they won the past two years.

Currently Cole leads all D-1 kickers in points scored. He is 3rd in FG accuracy, behind Szmyt from Syracuse ( 16/17) and Verity from ECU ( 12/13). Szmyt is the closest competition so far and he is 30/30 in PAT.

The ways this works is the committee starts the year off with a watch-list of 30 kickers. However, all D-1 kickers are eligible. Each week the committee selects and recognizes 3 kickers based upon their performance that week. In early September, the committee announces 20 semi-finalists....from THIS LIST the top 3 finalist are chosen for the award in late November.
It is from these 3 finalist that the award is given at the end of the year.

Cole is the ONLY kicker recognized THREE TIMES for his weekly performance. (Szmyt has only been recognized once). He has tied two big kicking records at LSU and has had game winners. These are things that make the committee take even more notice.

I really think LSU needs to get onboard and hype a TRACY for GROZA campaign. He has a real shot and objectively, I think he is the leading contender.

He would be LSU's first Groza Winner and would punctuate a great story.

He's got a great shot to do it. Everyone in the country will be watching LSU vs Bama and we should have at least 1-3 other ranked match ups.

Absolutely a great kicker. A Rocket Launcher for a leg. But I know the committee looks at much more than that. I think the intangibles in Cole's story put Cole in a slight lead. I think Cole can pull this off and I think the university needs to start pumping the campaign

This kid should be disqualified for lack of vowels in his last name.

You can’t just leave all the vowels out of your name, it’s not natural.

I want Cole to win. But would a campaign put pressure on Cole? I'm not saying he can't handle it. But something tells me Cole would rather win as a team and couldn't care less about individual accomplishments. If he has the stats, he will win (unless the Groza is a political award like the Heisman has become?). Not trying to be a stick in the mud but a kicker is the last person who you want something up in their head.
