Guys that are better for 1 inning than Ron Guidry ever was

That’s truly how ignorant you are.
So a guy that
- Threw and immaculate inning.
- Won 190 games in the majors;
- Sat at 93-95 then but that’s 96-98 today;
- Was known for his absolutely filthy slider
- Set the MLB RECORD for WINNING PERCENTAGE for a pitcher with 20 or more wins for an incredible 25-3 record THAT STILL STANDS TODAY WITH A frickING 1.74 ERA THAT SEASON.
- Set a NYY record that lasted 44 fricking years with 248 Ks a NYY (which was recently broken by Cole with 258 in 2022.
- Was part of a No-No

In 1977, Guidry was moved from the pen at the end of May and went fricking 7-0 in that last 7 starts with 5 complete games and a 1.02 ERA.
Then had 2 complete game wins in 3 post season starts that season.
now go find a fricking match Mr Baseball Guru.

Just fricking admit you NEVER saw him pitch.

Such a fricking dumbass.

Do you think it is harder to hit Ron Guidry the 4th time you see him in a game, or do you think its harder to hit 4 different guys with different out pitches that throw 98mph in a game?

With this watered down pitching staffs today?
How many more teams are there today?

And yet GUIDRY in 1978 HAD A 1.74 ERA AND WENT frickING 25-3 a record winning percentage that still stands today some fricking 46 years later.

You looked over a 17 year career. None of these guys today will last that long so it’ll be a moot point.

Because guys today throw significantly harder than guys of the past. Skenes is the prototypical modern pitcher throwing regularly 100+.

A guy who throws that hard needs to be taken care of. Very very few pitchers threw as hard as Skenes.

He'll probably have the first billion dollar contract in MLB by then.

I must admit I am surprised at the hostile reaction to my suggesting Skenes should have continued pitching to complete a no-hitter. Today's managers rely too heavily on computer analyses to determine their "game plans" before the first pitch is thrown instead of reacting to the flow of the game. If Skenes threw 63 pitches in the first three innings and must 36 over the next four, that would suggest to me that he was getting stronger. He was particularly effective in the sixth and seventh. His replacement quickly gave up two hits in the eighthand nearly blew the game.

I grew watching the baseball in the 50s and 60s and the star players were expected to play the whole game. Look at the complete game leaders of that era and you'll see the likes of Robin Roberts, Warren Spahn, Whitey Ford, Bob Gibson, Nolan Ryan, Bob Lemon, Juan Marichal and Sandy Koufax -- all Hall of Famers. Despite all pitching a tremendous number of innings, only Koufax left the game early with arm trouble.

Perhaps its a generational things. Today the focus seems to be on contract extensions, options, pitch counts, free agency, disabled lists etc. instead of just playing the game. Manager need a computer printout to decide who the play and for how long.

Former Yankees and Mets great Casey Stengle had it figured out. He said, "the secret to successful managing is to keeps the five guys who hate you away from the four guys who haven't made up their minds" Perhaps the game is that simple until you start thinking about it too much and go all wobbly.

Haven’t read the whole thread but has anyone said it’s because the Pittsburgh Pirates hate LSU ?
