I'd think Hess at most would have 2 innings in him right now. He's up there throwing it with everything he's got every pitch.

There's a good chance we'll need Hess out of the pen tomorrow to win, but if we don't; then I'm in favor of starting him Saturday. I'd roll the dice that he would hold OSU scoreless for the first 4+ innings, while our offense hopefully gets the lead. Then turn it over to Gilbert and Newman. I think that scenario puts a ton of pressure on OSU and gives LSU the best chance to win. He'd go back to his relief role in the championship series.

This sounds very interesting

I can definitely agree with fact that he could hold OSU scoreless for a couple innings but that's the thing, only a couple. I don't see his stamina going farther then a couple innings.

There are many power pitchers who throw hard for more than one or two innings. Our coaches have a good idea of how long he can go.

We could possibly need Hess to start for the CWS finals if we make it especially because we will have a lot of guys starting on short notice. I would be in favor of starting him on Saturday if we win tomorrow and using Gilbert and Newman to finish the game plus Bain and Peterson. We really need Lange to throw a strong outing and he needs to at least throw 7 tomorrow IMO

Not diminishing what Hess has done recently, but it's a completely different mindset knowing you just have to get 3 outs rather than going 5 innings and facing batters more than once.

Amazing people don't understand this. There are dumbasses here who think Hess can throw 7-8 innings as a starter the exact same way he throws one inning as a closer.

Lange will pitch a complete game shutout tomorrow and the rant will explode

What?? No Hess???

Seriously, that would be awesome to see Lange throw a CG. I'd like to see him get one more completely dominant appearance in his LSU career, sort of a marquee moment

If we win game 1 with OSU, I would start Hess in the second game. He is the only pitcher that LSU has that can absolutely just shut an opponent down. There is no tomorrow. You have to give it your best shot right away. Remember Laxton.

He hasn't proven he can do this over a course of 5-6 innings.

Start Gilbert.

I somewhat agree with you. I would definitely do this:

If we get a good 7-8 innings out of Lange, the back of the pen mops up the last two, and we win Game 1 without Hess ...

I'd start Gilbert in Game 2 and be ecstatic if I got four good innings out of him. He'd be on a short leash in inning five. I'd then put Hess in for two innings and tell him to throw the hell out of it both innings. Closer mentality even in the 6th and 7th. If he mows them down, send him out for a third inning on a very short leash. The bats must be working to put us in a position where the rest of the pen can finish the last inning or two with a cushion. If no cushion, you have to hope for the best.

Of course, if the bats aren't working and 1-4 don't produce consistenly, this is all for naught.
