I'm of the GDI community and would not want to be seen in a social setting with anybody that was in the student section today. That being said, I laughed a few times at their behavior, so they were doing a good job I suppose. I wouldn't change a thing about the student section, I just prefer sitting in comfortable seats. Standing is reserved for football season.

Just wondering, not that I have a dog in this hunt, but if the frat types are such better fans, why don't think actually go to the games and steal the lower section from the geeds?
Awesome idea. Why don't you just go to game and support your team.

When I was at Lsu, the bball diehards slowly got weirder and weirder and took a nose dive when they moved the student section behind the basket.
It got so bad that almost all normal students (greeks/non greeks) moved to the upper sections and it sounds like that is where it stands now.
It's not worth getting to the games two hours early to get those seats for every game. that said, to the normal kids reading this thread, please try to get large groups to go for our nationally telivised games. having the weirdos front and center on espn makes the whole student body look bad. bring a flask or something and just pregame there. maybe get spring pledges to get there early and save blocks of seats, i dont know.

all college basketball sections wear weird costumes and get ups and whatnot... I don't think they look that much different than the average CBB fanbase..

I mean that whole area is the student section not just those bleachers.
Then why don't you sit in a block together up there, make some noise and get visible? I look up at that section every game, hoping to see it full and rocking.

You're right. I've been to lots of away games and those in the student sections are always dressed up, paint faces, carry handwritten signs, sing special chants & do certain actions etc. They look like they're having fun and enjoying the event. It's all part of the college basketball culture.
I've been disappointed to see a lack of students in the last few seasons. Looked dead.
I don't think many of you realize how much energy it gives the players to look up and see or hear that enthusiasm. The student section is the one place in the arena that is obvious. TV camera men love it - makes good viewing. It communicates that people care about supporting their team.
CJJ is constantly talking about the positive effect of fans when they get loud. I'm pretty sure they don't care if some are supposedly geeks or "super-cool" kids.
I'm going to A & M next week - now those students have the weirdest traditions. But they go to the games and cheer on their team.

wish it wasn't midweek. Must be nice to be able to slip out of work for a basketball game

So, what would you be doing that makes the bleacher section look "cool" and presentable on national television? I mean all of this crap about being too embarrassed to sit next to other students is some of the most insecure shite I've read on here.

It's also a shitty view of the court down with the freaks. I went to every game in college and was loud, but never sat down there.

Guess I've got to jump in, because whining about 2 hour waits is lame. (here comes the old man speech)
When I was in school, in the early 90's, tickets were reserved and given out on Thursday mornings. We literally camped out 3-8 days for each Thursday, and by we, I mean 80-100 people 3 days before, 300 night before.
Grow a pair.

Its just pretty sad to see other nationally televised SEC games bringing 200+ students then seeing us with our crappy 40-50. It amazes me that baton rouge area high school student sections our even better than LSU.

I've wondered why no fraternities ever makes their pledges do this. Seems like an easy way to go to a game with you buddies.
