how is this different than Tebow thanking his lord and savior after each win...just an expression of his personal beliefs

I didn't bash anyone. Althought I do think it was disrepectful of CJ/Mahmoud Abdul Rouf to sit during the National Anthem.

Thanking Jesus is not disrespecting anyone. As you said, it's expressing his beliefs. But sitting during th National Anthem is disrespectful. He is free to express his beliefs and worship whoever he pleases. Just shouldn't disrespect the country that gives him that right. IMO!

It's disrespectful, of course. That was the point. I do not agree with the man. But this is America. It's the one place on the globe where you can make a "statement" like that and SHOULD be afforded at least a minimum level of understanding. You want to think he's an arse, fine. But at least he has an opinion - there have been plenty of LSU athletes to make their way through the system that haven't "grown" as a person at all.

So if Kareem Abdul-Jabbar goes back to UCLA, they should call him Lew Alcindor?
Posted on 1/31/09 at 7:10 pm to TigerNacho
I never said he was an arse. Settle down. I just think a person should show a little more respect to the country that gives him freedom of religion.

So if we refer to Muhammad Ali's Olympic gold medal we should call him Cassius Clay?

The U.S. does not give anyone their freedom of religion - it's an inalienable human right endowed by our creator - the U.S. merely recognizes this.
But sure, I understand. He's an arse. To be an arse is part of our freedom too. It's the beauty of our country.
Sorry, I'm a little patriotic today.

I agree kingrfdaddy, if it were not for this great nation and the priciples we stand for he would not even have to opportunity to practice freedom of religion so stand up and show your respect when it is played. Point blank.
