Saban bowed down to the analytics nerds and it cost him the game 
I’m being facetious but at the time I questioned why they didn’t take the points early since points were at a premium in the game. I get Saban’s thinking behind it though.

This is the correct answer. Does anyone remember the end of FSU game? Extra points are not automatic for any kicker, especially under that kind of pressure.

It’s actually pretty simple. I was questioning the second one too but imagine a scenario where LSU is down 23-17 and needs a TD to go back ahead.
LSU scores the TD - Then it’s 23-23 and the clear choice is go for 1.
Saban went for 2 to potentially put a FG in play as a winning score.
Just because they didn’t make it doesn’t mean it was wrong to try…just like many would be saying if we had lost on the same type of play.
