Why did it take TAF so long to get the architecture right?

The SEZ expansion is going to look incredible from the outside, but the west uppers are such an architectural abortion that the great looking new addition is just going to accentuate the shittiness of it.

So the question has to be asked: what in the hell were they thinking when the built the west uppers?

Along those same lines, who in the hell designed the new Alex Box Stadium? What a disappointment from the outside. Very functional but ugly as hell...

the frick

And yeah the west upper is terrible. I wouldn't mind them re-doing the outside.

The East side doesn't matter because it's close to other buildings and you can't really see it.

??? Alex Box Stadium is beautiful from the outside. The only issue I have with it are the metal bleachers which I'm hoping eventually are replaced with chair backs. It's as good as it gets in college baseball on the outside. what about this says disappointing?

IMO it looks very bland. I don't think it looks terrible now that the chain link fence has been replaced but it is definitely not the same style as the old bowl or the new SEZ expansion (which looks great btw)

Its kind of amusing to know that some architect probably has renderings of the east & west uppers proudly on display in their office. I wonder if you can see the PVC pipe in those renderings.

This.

I hope the go back to the drawing board and redo the facade on the West Side. It seems very doable, and would look extremely better than the bullshite that is there now.

it's certainly doable. Tennessee redid the entire outside of Neyland stadium to alleviate the erector set look.

It is doable, although Tennessee had an easier task as they simply just built a new facade around the erector set. LSU would need to strip down the west upper and create a new facade.

Hell I'd be happy if they just redid the windows.

What does everyone hate about the look of the west uppers? I never really pay attention to the looks but would like to know what everyone dislikes about it (pictures include would be nice).

And don't say the pipe. I noticed that lol

Has anyone ever seen/posted any other concepts for the west upper? I know everyone and their brother wants it to more closely resemble the traditional look of Tiger Stadium, but I've never actually seen any alternative designs.

I haven't either.

I wish someone could come up with a basic concept of the west side mimicking the south endzone expansion design.

The windows on the north end of the stadium are done. I was referring to the windows on the west upper.

FWIW here is photo of the west upper before they put the "bars" on the windows

Architect for the west uppers were more concerned with making a name for themselves. They have built some real abominations around the area over the years. They paid absolutely no respect to the design elements of the rest of the stadium.

It's hideous....and I hope they tear the whole west upper deck down and start over. It's the stadium version of Middleton library to me.

Crappy modernist and contemporary design has become the norm in an industry influenced by egotistical jerk offs. Sticking out is more important than design quality. I've heard some of them call the west upper an "architectural marvel".

The new SEZ design isn't horrible, but I don't like the placement of the arches. Arches should be holding something up.

The west side of the stadium is one of the ugliest in the SEC. It's awful

fwiw, tennessee also redid the entire exterior of the pressbox.

it went from

to

it was a little more than just putting brick on top to cover everything up. it was a pretty extensive project that took half a year to complete
