redshirted him and played him sparingly this year. He's not good enough to put Thomas--or anybody else in that offense--on the bench. I think we need to lower our expectations of Shepard a bit. It's not because Crowton sucks or is stupid--it's because he was overrated coming out of high school. Not that he wasn't great, just that his skills don't translate as easily into the college game as most of the recruiting "experts" believed. He can still have a very good career, but he just doesn't have the talent to be an All American.

Because except for a rare flash of brilliance, R. Shepard is pretty much a bust.

What a retarded comment.

First off, our coaching staff completely fricked this kid up. Amazing considering high school coaches knew how to use Russell Shepard just fine. At QB.

Second, he's trying to learn, and play a completely new poistion. In the SEC, for that matter.

And of course last, but certainly not least, he has no one to get the ball to him. If we do get the ball to him, he's generally fixing to get fricking smashed.

Based on your comment, everybody on offense is a fricking bust.

Maybe not Thomas, because we really haven't seen Shepard play QB, but Oregon has absolutely nothing special at WR. Shepard could easily play in that offense. It's designed to put people in space - a concept completely lost with Gary Crowton.

Do you have any idea how many college players at various positions played QB in high school? frick high school. What position you played there means fricking dick in college.

I agree with that. And I think he should have gotten some more touches out of the backfield. But he hasn't made the most of the touches he has gotten. That is on him.

With Jefferson stinking it up, I'd have at least given him a shot at it.

More like why could we not just keep DThomas and not lose him to the Ducks? Chip kellys and GC offense is about the same thing

Because the coaches kept telling him he was an athlete instead of a quarterback.

Because LSU doesn't have Chip Kelly or Rich Rodriguez.

LSU wanted to do the exact same thing with Darron Thomas that they did with Russell Shepard. The only difference is that Darron Thomas said frick you, I want to play QB, and went to Oregon. LSU got smart, and told Shepard he would get his shot at QB. Which he really didn't but whatever.

Thomas was shite compared to Shepard coming out of high school. Whether you want to believe it or not, Chip Kelly is about a fricking billion times better than Gary Crowton. Put Shepard in Oregon's offense, and he's a fricking stud. Instead, Thomas plays for a great coach, and Shepard plays for the offensive equivalent of Lou Tepper.

not really. they tried him at QB first (which they promised him they'd do), but when it didn't look like he'd get on the field there, he played more RB and WR.

I think he's shown improvement at WR and is trending up there, he just needs more time there and better QB play.

I remember before we played Ole Miss in 09 Dexter McCluster saying it took him some time to become the player he was, and it'd prob take Shep some time too.

He's too small to do much as a receiver and displayed terrible hands.

Shep's hands are not great but are probaly as good or better than Devery Henderson's when he was at LSU. He is also listed as big or bigger than Devery.

He never strictly worked with the QB's. He was always working one group period with QB's, one with Rb's, one with Wr's.

He eventually saw the writing on the wall, and noticed that two bad QB's were playing in front of him and knew he would never beat them out regardless of how bad they played.
