re: Why are some fans wasting Simmons' entire tenure complaining about him?

All of this is pointless. Everyone's frustrated because this season appeared to be promising going in, and instead has never gotten anywhere. We reached conference play facing near must-win scenarios right off the bat, and despite initially responding, the team is crashing now.
Regarding Simmons, he's a good player, no doubt. If he came in with the average amount of hype (say Jarrell Martin levels), I'd be happy with him. But he didn't, he was made out to be some transcedent talent. But he lacks any type of offensive game other than a drive; nothing to hang his hat on in the half court. You mock and sneer when I say he lacks Magic's passing ability or Rodman's rebounding, but considering he has basically the same game as Josh Gray on offense, he isn't a good defender or shot blocker, then I respond: why the hell is he supposed to be so unquestionably great? Because he MIGHT be able to put a game together, 5 years down the road? If that's the case, then no, I don't want another Simmons here. I want a guy who can lead this program to the NCAA tournament, and if that guy takes a couple of years to develop, then get one that will still be here when he begins to emerge.
I really could give 2 shits about what he will do in the NBA.
As an aside, people keep talking about what will happen when he gets NBA coaching,... but that's variable too. Notice that Anthony Davis got 59 pts the other night, then followed it up with a gameplan that got him 9 shots the next game? Does that sound brilliant?
