Do you know what the difference between the word "is" and "was" is?
"Is" = body of work and skill package. He's bad.
"Was" = last night. He was far superior to JJ but then so is every QB in America. JJ's stats are so bad that the NCAA website doesn't even go that low on their listings.

In the last 4 years it appears whoever rises to starter gets more coaching attention and gets worse. If Lee becomes the starter he will get worse than last night and everyone will be sporting pics of Jefferson with "Start Jefferson".

I think Lee should start, but as other posters have said - I am not "sold on him". He an interception in the endzone and almost another in the endzone.

If I wanted to be an arse I would point out we had 10 points on Jefferson led drives and 6 points on Lee led drives. And Lee forced a FG with his near int and Jefferson finished Lee's TD drive.

But yes, I saw signs of a passing game from Lee we hoped for.

People make fun of us that went to the spring game and saw Lee out perform JJ. JJ looked just like now and Lee is playing the same. Lee is a quarterback. JJ is an athlete without great skill. He should be moved to tight end where he might have a future at the next level.

2010 Passing Stats

Lee - 18 for 25, 206 yds, 72% cmp, 8.24 ypa, 133.22 rat (first snaps of the season)

J.J. - 46 for 89, 449 yds, 52% cmp, 5.05 ypa, 87.99 rat (trending downward)

Also, if you remove the 87 yd run, JJ barely has 100 yds rushing all season.

Lee has much more upside as far as what he brings to the table in a vertical passing attack....but the risk is that is he makes bad decisions that result in turnovers.

All Jefferson has to do is

1 - manage the game
2 - get the ball into the hands of the playmakers on short timing routes
3 - hit some occasional passes in the 10-20 yard range on 1st and 2nd down
4- tuck the ball in and run to get some positive yardage on a well covered pass play or at least avoid the sack
5 - avoid turnovers.

Jefferson has made progress in avoiding sacks. Seems like he has gotten worse at everything else. Now that he is turning the ball over consistently, I don't think the coaches see Lee as the risk he was before....IMO

Matt,

To me it seemed the near interception was worse than the actual interception. He threw that dropped ball into double coverage. From the looks of it, the fade to Ridley had to have been a designed play concocted up by "The Wizard." It was under thrown for sure but the defender jumped in front of Ridley who was probably running his first endzone fade since he was 12. And it wasn't double coverage.

I support him and I agree with you.
Hopefully he shook the rust off, because he made some boneheaded plays on Saturday.

Whoever is not sold on JL over JJ needs to be beaten like a red-headed step child. You listening Les.

The 83 yard run notwithstanding, what of those things has he actually shown you he is ready to do?

Lee - 185 yards passing

I don't get how 16-23 for 185 yards, in relief no less, and including leading your team on the final drive and converting a big 4th down is "really bad". Enlighten me, please.

i think we should use lee at qb from 20-20 and shepard in the wildcat while in the redzone. lee scares the shite out of me throwing the ball in the redzone

JJ has thrown two ints in the EZ, and went brain dead on two debacles in the red zone, so I'd rather be scared than resigned to failure.
