re: Who will be the starting QB vs. Oregon?

LSU didn't sign a JUCO QB to sit on the bench. Mett starts if both he and Jefferson perform up to their ability.
Of course maybe Kragthorpe can work some sort of miracle as QB coach with Lee and Jefferson, then all bets are off.

See thats your problem, you can't grasp the concept of with everything being the same, remove JJs stats, plug in someones stats who was remotely close to even a top 20 ranked Qb and the results could have only been better. We likely have a shot to play for a NC. We won games in spite of JJ.
You are either Jordan Jefferson himself or you are an idiot, which are close to the same anyway...

I wouldn't say that was a good performance
Of course you wouldn't, but that's your agenda speaking and not the thought process of a sane/rational college football fan.
His passing efficiency for the Cotton Bowl was like 165 and his 4 TDs accounted for was only bettered one time all season by any SEC QB and was one time when Mallett had 5.
The O he directed was 9 of 15 for 3rd down makes, 4 of 5 in the red zone, and we owned the ball for a quarter more of time.
But you can't even bring yourself to call that a "good performance" by a LSU QB .
I have to think QB's everywhere are glad you don't coach them.
We might all have reason to bitch and moan over the LSU QB play at times this year, but the Cotton Bowl was not one of those times. imo

Can we get a ban for ANY "fan" calling any of our players idiots?
You sir, are the idiot.

Don't like passing stats. OK. Don't like talking about bad stats even though our team (LSU) won (also your position in several of your previous posts). OK. How 'bout this (my post from 10/27/10) when our team didn't win:
JJ started all season. He threw 4 TD in the 12 game regular season. Not even close to the 250 ypg passing that Les Miles has recently said is his goal on ESPN for 2011 (along with just under 200 yards per game rushing). He knows. He knows what he would like to see in a starting QB leading our Tigers to the 2011 BCS MNC. We do too. It won't happen with a QB that can only throw 4 TD in 12 regular season games including several gimme games (even 7 TD all year with TT playing a super "lights out" game vs. A&M). I won't even get into stats of # of interceptions being greater than # of TDs for year - I remember you don't like stats...
Harsh. Critical. Yes. That's what I'm entitled to be thinking. Let it play out. Let Mett and JL get their chance. Do not assume Miles will automatically annoint JJ the starter in the "Jerry World" dome in Dallas to start our 2011 season vs. Oregon. Most good to great QBs in BCS last year had over 20 TDs passing. Nothing to do with winning and losing. Very few teams have the total off. and def. personnel to match-up with LSU. We (LSU) won many games because of our Total Team Talent (not because of our QB - as was seen with our game with Auburn).
Get off the "all things JJ" shtick. Les didn't get Mett in as a CC transfer just to sit him on the bench all year. This QB thing is yet to be decided (1st game vs. Oregon, 2nd game, etc.). Again, just my take.

one thing I can prove, with JJ under center, LSU was ranked around 110 in almost all passing stats among the 120 Div-1 Qbs. That's a fact.
Sleep on dat...

LSU and Auburn were tied with 7 min. or so in the 4th Quarter. Score was 17 - 17. LSU had a chance to score at this point. Fail. Auburn was then given it's chance less than 2 minutes later. Auburn scored. Auburn won. Defense for LSU the decider - alignment/execution/etc. - maybe. Not IMO. IMO, Auburn had the better QB. Not OL, DL, RB (that may come into play against Alabama) - not any other position. QB. Simple. Cam Newton is great. Auburn - congratulations.
If LSU could have scored 24 points or more, this entire thread may have taken a different slant.
Auburn 52 - Arkansas State 26
Auburn 17 - Mississippi State 14
Auburn 27 - Clemson 24
Auburn 35 - South Carolina 27
Auburn -- - ULM fugitaboutit
Auburn 37 - Kentucky 34
Auburn 65 - Arkansas 43
Auburn 24 - LSU 17
Five of the 6 other "relevant" teams above scored more than LSU scored against Auburn. If anyone discounts Arkansas State, it is 4 of 5 other "relevant" teams scored more than LSU against Auburn. So what you say? LSU doesn't have a SEC level QB. If they did this thread may not exist. Just my take.

Lets see...LSU coaches make hundreds of thousands and LSU players get their education paid for and other perks while you sit at home on your p/c with nothing better to do but call them names and you see them as the "idiots".
I wonder if any of us will be calling young men "idiots" this Wednesday when they fax their papers in???
You might want to think a tad next time before you open mouth and insert foot, but each to our own.

This is a dumb question, if jj is still alive when fb season starts he will be the qb. Only if he gets injured will Les play another player!!!

which means, frankly, it's incredible that LSU was able to win 11 games with a passing offense that ineffective.
good article thanks

If that's why you start him, than we should look forward to 1 good game next year, maybe 2! Nice comment.

JaMarcus Mettenberger for the win!

Its positively mind boggling anyone can believe its in LSU's best interest to start JJ at QB. I watched this guy in 2010 and, at times, thought I was watching the worst QB in the conference. He was headache producing bad.

You might want to grow up a tad.
No one sees JJ as "all powerful".
You want to think Mett will walk on the field and JJ will run away in fear, knock yourself out.

As opposed to who???
The current flavor of the month as the next great LSU QB who has yet to take his 1st snap in an LSU practice???
It's thoughts like that which are really "mind boggling". imo
Great for LSU if Mett takes the QB spot due to proven ability, but with all due respect to him...LSU hasn't won the 1st game with him at QB.
How bout we hold our water before we throw another LSU QB under the bus.

The most important key to determining LSU's starting QB will be the gameplan vs. Oregon. LSU will focus on ball control, dominating the lines, and running the football. That formula is pretty much the offensive game plan for Mile's entire career, so...
Expect JJ to start. The guy is a winner, especially in season openers, bowl games, and after bye weeks. The only time JJ has every lost in those situations (i.e. more the one week to prepare) was vs. Penn State in sloppy conditions.
JJ is the safe bet to start.

I think that's a reasonable expectation and I have it as well.
They are all LSU QBs, so it matters not to me, but time in the program does matter and JJ has than hands down...new OC or not.
Chit happens in college football, but for Mett to start in that 1st game he is gonna have to have a sweet Spring game and Fall practice. A lot to expect for someone who never took a snap in FBS/BCS football.
