No.

Griese was QB for the '71, '72, & '73 Dolphins;

Woodley was QB for the '82 Dolphins;

Marino was QB for the '84 Dolphins.

Marino was a rookie in 1983.

Woodley played in the Super Bowl the season before Marino was drafted. Don Strock was the other Miami quarterback, I believe

Correct ... Woodley split time with Don Strock and the tandem was named "Woodstrock". In 1983, Woodley began the season as starter but gave way to rookie Dan Marino ... and the rest is history.

Majority of posters here have no clue. I'm 35 and I don't. Before my time.

I was an adult and paying attention at the time. Woodley was better both as runner and passer.

I stand corrected but they both played at the same time and only Woodley played in the Super Bowl with Miami...

Don't forget Timmy Byrd

Wasn't it Byrd who left when Hodson came off his red shirt year, went to Sou.Miss. and didn't start there either?

They were both on the '83 team.

Woodley was 24 when he started against the Redskins in Super Bowl XVII.

Marino was 23 when he started against the 49ers in Super Bowl XIX.

Tom Brady was the youngest to WIN a super bowl, and then Ben Roethlisberger did it at an even younger age. Both were also 23, but a little older than Marino I think.

If memory serves me correctly it was the only Super Bowl Dan Marino played in as well. Marino may have been great but it took an LSU guy to get them there!

Your memory does not serve you well.

Not concerned about the NFL. I remember Ensminger being more productive, Woodley more athletic.

Ensminger more of a tradtional drop back QB. Woodley brought a great scrambling aspect to the game. I was a Woodley fan while all 3 of us were at LSU at the same time.

Maybe tomorrow we can discuss Chad Loup, Mickey Guidry, maybe even Sparacino.

Hey, Mickey Guidry was a very good QB, who just happened to be on the same team with a better QB (Hodson). Crap, there I go showing my age again.

Agree with you JeauxBleaux, but I was an Ensminger fan. He led LSU to a come from behind victory over Ole Piss, the headline in the Advocate the next morning was, "Steve E Wonder!!". He actually dated my friend's older sister while at LSU and was cool to hang out with. We spent a lot of time waterskiing in the summer, etc. My dad and another friend's dad loved Cholly Mac, so Steve called Coach Mac from the camp one night, so they could talk to him.

Ensminger was signed by the Saints, I think. Woodley by Miami. When one of the other QB's that Miami signed was cut in favor of Woodley, that QB (from Stanford?) was picked up by N.O. and Ensminger was cut.

I’m 44 went to the games with my father. From my perspective when I was young, at the time, Ensminger looked like a “modern” quarterback the way he threw the long ball. As I remember he had wider fan support. It’s funny now because in many ways Woodley would fit in to what many college teams due today. His style of a duel threat never went away just became less popular in the 80’s-90’s, but today who doesn’t want that on their team. Also, I never really liked the Coach Mac rotated his Qb’s, it seemed just as one got in rhythm he put the other in.

I still have a number ----5--- Jersey
