Right. And there was a clusterfrick regarding Skip's handling of the Del Rio situation. We weren't rushed to make a hire. Miles wasn't going anywhere. Waiting an extra week would have not cost us anything.

Why worry about the search when u land a coach who wins u a NC?
Because the thread is about the availability of coaches in 2005.

I have no idea who was a "serious" candidate, as far as who wanted to come here and who was able to come here.
I personally thought RC Slocum would have been a helluva hire.
I'd never heard of Les Miles and I was skeptical.
But hey, he won a National Championship and his record speaks for itself.
We hired the right guy.

Actually...if Saban had decided to leave about a week earlier there is a decent chance Spurrier would've came here. He had signed his contract about 2 days before Saban announced he was leaving and USC would not let him out of it.

Miles may have been run out of OKState by now and be possibly unemployed. His stay at OSU was getting a little long in the tooth.
Instead he took over a Top 5 program from Saban, won a BSCNC and now earns $4 million a year.
Timing means everything sometimes.

If Miles wasn't coaching at LSU he'd be coaching somewhere else. He wouldn't be unemployed.

Would not be at a major BCS school. Aside from the MI rumors, who had knocked on his door in the last 6 years?

Come on, fellow. If JDR seriously wanted a college job, he would have one. He didn't in 2005 and he didn't in 2009 when USC opened up.
When u can coach and win at the highest level, u do that. When u can't, u drop down to the college level.

Nobody....probably because they know he wouldn't go anywhere except for Michigan. What schools have been knocking on Mack Browns door? Does that make him a bad coach?

Del Rio's daughter was a student at LSU at the time. His wife is from Louisiana and went to LSU. His family has serious LSU ties. It wasn't just an opening at a college program.

See above.
Why are we even arguing this? What I've said is fact and has been reported by multiple news sources.

You must have missed the part where it was reported that Del Rio reached out to LSU, not vice versa.
The interest was there. Whether it still is there would be a legit question.

I had heard of him because of his beating Oklahoma and his development of OSU, but I was some what skeptical too.
I can't complain about LM since his record is the best we have ever had at LSU. I leave that to our rant haters and fairweather clowns who puke their nonsense out here daily .

Then why were the LSU admins snubbed when they went to go meet with him in Jacksonville? Not being a smartass, serious question. I've always wondered this because there was obviously some interest from both parties.
ETA: nevermind....i just read Antonios post about JDRs contract.

U said it was a skip CF. It was a JDR CF. He had LSU people in Fla to interview him. They didn't pack their bags and go there w/o him agreeing to a meet. He fricked it up, but u want to hang it on Skip.
And if u think OSU and Miles were just going to sit around and wait on LSU and JDR to get their act together, u r mistaken. We don't know what time table ANYONE was working under, but the CF was JDR not knowing his own fricking contract.
I wouldn't expect a coach to know his contract inside and out, but do u really believe he wouldn't know when he was allowed to interview for another job and when he wasn't? Do u really believe he wouldn't discuss such a move with his agent or legal staff. Come on, man, all that crap smells to high heaven. U r smarter than to buy that story.

Holy crap, you're dumb. Skip's frick up was not waiting until after Jacksonville's playoff game before pulling the trigger on Miles. I don't know where you get half the shite you argue.

Where was Miles going to go? He was still under contract with OSU, had already interviewed with LSU, and no other outstanding interviews or offers.

Yes, we do. Miles was going no where. There was no need to rush the process. Hiring Miles five days later would have not made one bit of difference.

That's his agent's job. And his agent told him he was forbidden to interview under his contract while the Jags were still playing. You don't think hiccups like this happen all the time in Professional Interviews? Del Rio wanted to interview, all Skip had to do was wait two days.

He did you dumb frick. That's why he didn't interview. He had to wait until after Jacksonville's game.

U buy into the story that a pro coach would contact a college team about an opening before discussing the move with his agent and legal staff, but I'm the dumb frick.
U think OSU and LM would be willing to be left swinging on a limb while LSU and JDR decided if, maybe, and when an interview could be set up, but I'm the dumb frick.
Hopefully u have someone over seeing your business activities because u r clueless if u believe the crap u just posted.

Please don't compare Mack Brown to Les Miles. Please don't compare leaving TEXAS for another school. I mean are you that freaking dumb? What the hell school would Mack Brown leave for?
I can't name one school!!!!! CAN YOU???? Please tell me what school can come close to Texas as a whole???? Mack Brown will basically be the AD when he stops coaching...he is set for life!

LM is making a shite load of money at LSU and already owns a NC. Why in the hell would he leave to go away where, but Michigan?
That's what he was comparing, u dumb bunny. How many schools out their r going to oe able to offer LM more than he already has? Just because NS was dumb enough to leave LSU, that doesn't mean LM will be.
