There was not alot of love between the two I can tell you that.
And I'm no Dale apologist for sure, but considering what he took over compared to Mac, I'd have to give the edge to Dale.
Mac took over a program that was an established power. Dale took over crap and made it relavent, though the sideshow tired me pretty early on and never let up.

Dale did more with less and Charlie Mac did less with more. Charlie Mac was conservative good old boy who the other good old boys could relate to. Dale was abrasive, fast talking Yankee who made something out of nothing. People who think Les is conservative in his play calling never went through a season with a Charlie Mac team. I will always remember Mac explaining why he didn't like to pass because there were three things that could happen and two of them were bad. Of course that one thing that was good could maybe have helped him beat Bear Bryant but it would never happen.

If he ever said that, he stole it from Woody Hayes. Not that he didn't believe it. Who remembers the derisive cheer after another 3 and out:
Up the middle, up the middle, up the middle, PUNT!!!!!

I believe that CM was the only coach in the SEC (perhaps beyond that?) to defeat Bear Bryant twice!

Exactly, that is why the big 10 can GTH, for years they were given the higher rankings becuase of media bias. Now they want to hate on the SEC. F em.
