I’d rather 9:30 a.m. than starting at 10:30 p.m. and then being expected to play by 2:30 p.m. the next day.
What about playing a game that ends after midnight and being expected to play the next day at 1? That happens almost every year in the SECT to someone. It's the game 8 that doesn't start until after the 4:30 game ends (usually wel after 8:00) and the loser of that game playing the following day after the 9:30 AM game. When you have 12 teams playing in a tournament that takes place over 5 days, you're going to run into things like that.
But with the current format, quite frankly, isn't even fair the way it's set up. You shouldn't be eliminated in the semii-finals with your first loss to a team that has also already lost a game.

With Labas potentially out and Gilbert on the fritz it really hurts us as far as depth goes. I really hope Labas is good enough for this weekend, but if not we at least need him back for the tournament. I would agree that if we are short on arms that Gilbert would be a good option in Hoover. Even though he's been shaky at best and terrible at worst lately, it is basically his home field, and if I recall he pitched really well in the tournament last year (then again, he was just pitching really well around this time last year period). Also, though I wouldn't start Peterson (since he hasn't been good in that role), I would potentially look at him as being a long reliever instead of just a closer since he has the stamina if needed. Bush, Beck, Fontenot and Sanders are all guys that can start if possible/necessary or potentially give a good handful of innings if/when needed. Vietmeier I don't think has been healthy long enough to get his stamina up to a point where he can pitch more than a few innings. Kodros can be good at times, but is less dependable. We have plenty arms, if they are on their game. Unfortunately that's a big if as we've been really inconsistent this season.

Josh, good point that Mize may keep to his schedule as well and start Friday.
The new format adds a bit more excitement the first day but I do agree the semi finals aren’t exactly kind to teams that may *need* to win the tournament to get in. I think it’s still a big improvement over the 8 team tournament before they flipped brackets and you had the same teams playing each other 3 times over 2 days heading into regional play.
I can’t tell you how many times it would burn out #1 seeds just starting tournament play.

assuming we have to play on Tuesday, here is what I think. Tuesday---Gilbert.
Gilbert has a shoulder issue. He didn't take the mound this past weekend and I wouldn't count on him.
Could we start Beck tomorrow vs. NW State and again on Tuesday in Hoover?

I really think the SECT needs to do what the ACC does and have four pods of three teams playing round robins.
This would really help attendance by guaranteeing multiple games. It's gotta be tough for fans to make a trip into Hoover from places like College Station, Gainesville, and Columbia (Mizzou and SC) with the prospect of only playing one game.
