all arguments are good, but seriously, dalton is #2 at LSU all time in rushing and in the top 10 in SEC history. Just to show you how good, he split time with gary james. He was the most fun to watch.
If im drafting RB out of LSU's history, Hilliard had it all. He could run you over, juke you, catch, pass block, heart, he could even throw

Kevin Faulk... He brought back the magic!

Jim Taylor, Cannon, Faulk . . . take your pick

Kevin Faulk. Not only for what he did on the field, but his role in bringing the program back to its current status.

Just going by who I've seen, I'd have to put Dalton Hilliard at the top. He wasn't as fast as Faulk, but the guy had the best cuts and moves of any back I've seen at any level (and that includes Barry Sanders).
This! They didn't call him "Swivel Hips" for nothing. Don't forget that he broke an asspile of records for the Saint's as well.

Few of ranters saw Alexander play, and even though he played with Cincinatti in the NFL, he was an over-rated back. I agree he had impressive numbers, but the truth is he couldn't cut or break many tackles. He had tremendous speed and good size for the late '70 SEC-styled tailback. But he was not the stud people make him to be. I watched him play for four years.

I respectfully disagree. He was clearly special - the best part of the offense while he was there - a reason people went to the games. He had moves, but was not a cutter. He was a smooth runner - he ran more like a great cornerback than a running back, but it worked. He was not afraid of contact, but was not a bruising, power back despite his size (for the era).
However, he was electrifying in space and after turning a corner or getting to the second level. He got Heisman consideration despite playing on modestly successful teams - not normally possible for an LSU player.

Hitman 202 you're nuts, 2 time consenus All American and he is overrated?
He broke many tackles and was called at the time the best back after the first hit.
Better watch more film and also understand with Hillard's line he would have had much more yardage.
At Cincinatti, they missed used him the whole time he was there, blocking for Pete.
I went to near all the games at LSU when Alexander was there, and was there when he was pulled many times.
Dalton was never an All American, and should not have been. Dalton was a speical player but not the hitter Charles was....Alexander was the 2nd or 3rd best back in college football 2 years running.
