#1 Cannon (hardware, championship, and legend)
#2 Faulk (best all purpose/most versatile RB in LSU history)
#3 Alexander (best single season and incredible stats)
#4 Everybody else

Billy Cannon or Jim Taylor.
Then Charles Alexander...
Then Charles Alexander...

Based strictly on their college careers, Faulk and Cannon.
If you include pros, consider that Van Buren and Taylor are HOF.

Just going by who I've seen, I'd have to put Dalton Hilliard at the top. He wasn't as fast as Faulk, but the guy had the best cuts and moves of any back I've seen at any level (and that includes Barry Sanders).

1. The Diesel
2. The Dalton
2. The Dalton

Faulk did the most to turn the program around. He also has to be one of those at the top. But Collins was the best back I have seen for a 4 game stretch. Too bad he loved a free peep show!!!

Faulk certainly has the numbers- but most people who watched that year thought collins was better.
We had 3 different runner have a 200+ yard game that year- I dont think I've ever seen that by any other team
(Rondell Mealey was the third vs ND- also played a short time in the NFL)

Haven't read the whole thread, but I'll bet two things:
1. there is no consensus definition of "best"
2. Someone has mentioned Tommy Banks and/or Jacob Hester in earnest

Kevin Faulk for what he did on the field.
Collins had the most potential. Dude decleated takeo spikes from auburn. I never saw anyone do that.

faulk
and the crazy thing is I remember people wanting him to go pro his jr year because people tought he would take carries away from collins.
I wasn't around for cannon or alexander so it is hard for me to judge.
Won't but collins or vincent on the list because of limited years/games playing. Broussard would have been a great one also.

Cecil Collins was one of the best college backs I've ever seen. The guy was insane... too bad he couldn't get his shite together. The guy could have been very special.

I would wager that only five percent of the folks who read or reply to this post ever saw Charles Alexander play. Your argument ain't gonna get a lot of love up in here.
ETA: My top three: Dalton Hilliard, Billy Cannon and Charles Alexander
