The NBA draft journeys of former LSU forwards Jordan Mickey and Jarell Martin have taken different paths.

Since improving his draft status at the NBA combine in Chicago, the 6-8 Mickey has suddenly jumped on the lists of a few more teams looking at him as an early second-round pick.

For instance, the Boston Celtics brought in college basketball's leading shot blocker from this past season for a workout. The Celtics, looking for a rim-defending shot-blocker, have a late first-round pick at No. 28.

Martin, meanwhile, has been under the radar since his agent advised him to not participate in the 5-on-5 games at the combine.

He has been projected as a late first-round pick but several mock drafts have him falling to the second round.

Martin, who was listed at 6-10 at LSU, was measured at the combine at 6-8, 6'9¼ in shoes. Also, he was just one of three prospects whose wingspan didn't exceed his height in shoes by at least an inch.

Because Martin hasn't been a consistent outside shooter, though he has been strong driving to the basket, there's the thought his lack of height will hurt him on the next level.

I still say Martin. If I were looking for a piece, I think it is more rare to get a guy that can do what Martin does than what Mickey does.

Chad Ford has Martin going 29th to the Nets in his most recent mock.

"Martin is a great athlete, but his lack of elite size, length or shooting ability have given him the dreaded "tweener" label. Still, the talent is there and the Nets could use his versatility to help them at both the 3 and 4."

I would also say Martin. If I were looking for a piece, I think it is more rare to get a guy that can do what Martin does than what Mickey does.

Martin has always been the better pro prospect.

Martin is my pick for now. All it takes is for one team to like you for you to go earlier than expected. Many didn't expect our last two draft picks to be drafted at all.

I think there there is a good chance it is neither--free agent or overseas---Martin is the better prospect because of his offensive skills. Staying another year might have been good for both---
