Great who's available? I don't see any real options out there.

The issue is that our play calling is awful and we fail to take advantage of our talent.

JJ seems to understand the playbook he just hasn't been groomed well as a passer and because of the bizarre play calling he is often throwing the ball in situations that make it nigh impossible for him to succeed.

Agreed

Why do we keep Miles around though?
quote:

Miles doesn't coach a position.
Miles doesn't really coordinate the O or D.
He is a great recruiter and can help seal the deal on talent sitting on the fence, if he keeps Crowton after this year, what top talent would want to come here? If we replace him then he can say we got a great new OC that can develope you into an NFL 1st rounder. There are more hungry, good OC's available than HC's
He's not supposed to, That is why you have the OC and DC and Position coaches.

Miles doesn't manage the clock well.
Miles has often not gotten the team mentally focused before games

Agreed

I would prefer the better long term solution for LSU.

(that long term answer does not include Miles)

Why is it that you can usually count seeing a thread like this, which transfers the blame for LSU's struggles from where it belongs (the coaches) to where it doesn't (the fans) ?

Kelly
Harbaugh
Patterson

LSU is an upgrade for any of them.

Then there's JDR or maybe even Mike Stoops

None that I can think of.

Ehh I'm not so sure about this. This is the year to be in the market for a new HC a lot of young coaches are doing really well at not elite programs, which is when its best to be looking.

At the same time though a HC who can control or solidify one side of the ball makes things much simpler. Think about Saban or Carrol they know that they can handle the D so there isn't as much pressure to keep having to restock the coaching talent on that side of the ball.

Very good question. The fans aren't why we lost that game Saturday. I think some of it right now is still jilted lover syndrome from Saban. When he burned us a lot of fans really embraced Les and are having troubles admitting that they were wrong.

Amazing how you can jump from A to Q.
Amazing how you can read minds.
You presuppose too much in your B example. We can want to win and want a change of direction in the program. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

No one who calls themselves a Tiger fan, alumni or supporter wants to lose.

BTW, you really should consider castrating yourself.

Damn, you just don't get it. Saban was not 1/4 as great as you think he was. He sucked at Miami and he had some rough years at both LSU and Michigan. His team lost to UAB. You are obsessed with him.

Whether or not Saban was great LSU he is the coach that rescued us from the horrors of the 90s and Tepper. So our fans loved him.

He also has Bama poised for back to back undefeated regular seasons.

Far from it. I accepted that Saban left a while ago, which is why my focus is on comparing Miles to his possible replacements.

The ones you always hear bringing up things like "Well Saban did......." are almost always using it to support Miles.

Criticizing Miles by mentioning Saban is not necessarily reflective of a continuing obsession with Saban.

It so happens that when one is pointing out one of Miles's many flaws, you want to contrast that with a competent LSU coach, and if you don't use Saban, there is no other recent comparison to make.

For some it is

If you want to point out Miles' flaws the correct comparison should Miles to his possible replacements.

Which is why I used the phrase "not necessarily"

quote:

That's a perfectly valid way of making a comparison, but why is it the only "correct" way? If you are conducting an experiment, wouldn't it make sense to compare two objects (or people) in the same environment?

no thanks,
I agree that LSU is an upgrade for the others but do you think Cincy will let Kelly go, after this season do think Kelly wants to go? I don't.
Stanford has just as much money from boosters to keep Harbaugh where he is and he wouldn't be an upgrade. he has trouble motivating his players for anything but a bigtime game,(USC, Oregon)
Patterson, is the one I would take, but will he leave TCU for LSU? better make sure before you fire Miles.

Thanks for the civil conversation, you bring up some things I overlook. Gotta GEAUX, Happy Thanksgiving.

Cinci can't bid against programs like LSU or ND. I wouldn't be surprised if our AD is worth twice as much as theirs and ND blows us out of the water(By a cool $30,000,000)

I wouldn't be too sure about that. LSU's AD is in the top 5-8 in the nation terms of net worth.

Back that money truck up and see. Patterson's a loyal guy, but LSU can swamp TCU's offer.

Yes.

Kelly didn't deny that he would entertain overtures this offseason.

"It's a process after the season," he said. "It's always about looking at the best opportunities for you and your family. Cincinnati is a great place to be."
