when Alabama was playing a former pro basketball player?

They said they were against it, but wouldn't dare threaten Alabama with any serious repercussions for them actually playing a "professional" athlete in league games

There was plenty, including from LSU fans, but basketball has nowhere near the attention as football. You know this, plus how did that work out for that basketball player? He lost the appeal and his eligibility.

Here's the difference:
The SEC is suing LSU for recruiting "former pro" athletes
Bama recruited the basketball player. Stop right there. Forget what happened after that (that he actually played).
Why didn't the SEC sue Bama at that exact moment?
Nobody has been able to answer this.

And Bediako's eligibility case wasn't because the NCAA made sudden changes to eligibility rules that would have given him additional eligibility if he had stayed in school. Bediako only played 2 years of college basketball and then decided to forego his remaining NCAA eligibility to declare for the NBA draft. Then he spent time bouncing around NBA training camps and the G-League for 2+ years before he decided to try to go back to Alabama.
When he entered the NBA draft, he knew he still had at least 2 years of college eligibility left that he was giving up. The LSU players today didn't know they'd have another year of eligibility until after the NFL draft and minicamps because the NCAA changed the rules
