Yahoo Sports "LSU coach Ed Orgeron made his name as a defensive line coach. But he’s spent little time running a defense, as his career has been hallmarked as more of a recruiter and motivator than an overall tactician. When you are a head coach without substantial X-and-O acumen that is suddenly confronted with both a gaping talent deficit and an established schematic disadvantage, it could be a long season."

Its obvious O did not try and learn anything from Aranda how to scheme a defense.

me and others said this from the start. O did not have the resume nor had he coached one side of the ball. BUT, since miles was nothing special either as a OC at okie lite and running shite his way starting in 2010....we all figured if O just let the DC and OC do their thing UNLIKE miles with his OC's we would be fine..........albeit it MIGHT be tough to sustain with guys leaving OR not panning out.........
jimbo, CUM, malzahn, chizik, muschamp,saban, kiffin, leach, etc all can call 1 side of the ball.
O got us through it after he and canadas irreconcilable differences. but it still was a good hire. he got lucky with brady to bail him out. another good hire. we are running similar offense to last year. NFW O will get away from a proven system that won him a natty. linehan is not as bad as some are portraying and neither is BO.
whilst past performance is not indicative of future results and this is a what have you done for me lately game...let's see what happens.

Why doesn’t Jimbo get the same flak for his lighting in a bottle season with Jameis Winston?

Compared to a lot of LSU teams, yes.
Most of ours starters come from the 2018 recruiting class which was ranked 15th with players like Chase included.
Then you have a bunch of inexperienced freshmen and sophomores and some transfers sprinkled in.

How about compared to the teams we’re playing?
LSU is among the most talented teams every year so it’s not like that’s a huge knock of we’re slightly below par this year

Talent on paper isnt shite.
By that token, Georgia should win a championship every year.
That said, our 2018 class was a lot closer to State than Georgia.

O beat Florida and Auburn in 2017 with Danny Elton at qb. He beat a top 5 Georgia team in 2018.
O has won big games outside of 2019 but y’all don’t wanna hear that.

That’s not relevant to the discussion at hand. You said this LSU team is less talented that previous LSU teams, which may be true. But that doesn’t matter.

UF was 4-7 in 2017 and auburn finished with 4 losses.
Danny Etling was drafted.
before 2019 O was 2-6 vs p5 teams that finished with 4 or less losses
