Very well put. When the eye first appeared, it was definitely cheesy and not frat but the Dalton and James gang were running roughshod over opponents, MTV was really taking off, and having a silly midfield logo for a few games didn't seem like such a big deal.
It would be like creating something related to Gangnam Style or Call Me Maybe today. At least eye of the tiger meant something prior to the cheesey song, but the logo was created because of the song.
